We invest continuously in research
and development. In our laboratory we test and develop hydro turbines. The object
is to get cheaper design solutions and to improve the efficiency and the cavitation
characteristics of the turbine. In order to minimize the costs for a water turbine project, the turbine will generally be made as small as possible. With small dimensions, however, the flow velocity in the turbine becomes high. How small a turbine can be made is determined by the cavitation. Today, no hydraulic machine can be made and run efficiently without first undergoing theoretical and experimental analysis. Here our laboratory plays an important role. By tests in homologous models and computer calculations we develop the optimal solution and the operational conditions for each project. The main purpose of our model tests is to measure and optimise the efficiency and cavitation of the turbine. All turbine types offered by the Kvaerner Hydro Power Group are developed in our laboratory. For modernisation of older turbines, our laboratory is able to carry out tests and offer solutions to considerably increase the performance of older stations.
