Saturday is Italian market day, and we took the boat from Locarno to Cannobio on the Italian side of Lago Maggiore. On the way we passed Ascona, once a fishing village and still quite charming with narrow, cobbled alleys, later on a place for the jet-set people seeking peace and quiet. Hermann Hesse was a regular visitor, and the Monte Verità (Mountain of Truth) has a history of its own.
On the way we also passed the Isole di Brissago (Brissago Islands) with botanical gardens.
This was the only day (out of 10) that we had rain - just a few drops every now and then, but on the way back the sky opened and the rain just poured down - fortunately it only lasted for about 10 minutes.
