I turned 40 last week, and my life has twirled around all things related to that event these last weeks. Not much blogging, as you might have noticed, but some shopping and knitting.
Shopping:The cheap shop nearby has forced me to buy 48 balls of yarn these last two weeks. Evil shop, that one. But since I only paid 55 eurocents a ball, I'm ready to forgive, forget and come back for more.
The finds I couldn't resist:
16 balls of
Novita Reno, a viscose/wool/polyamid ribbon in a slightly variegated denim blue. I dream of a denim jacket similar to
Core (somewhere in the middle of the page). A friend sent me a pattern of a similar jacket, seamingly from the seventies. I will knit and wash a square to see if I like the structure, and then I might try to reinterpret. I haven't been able to find any photos of Reno online, it is gone from Novita's collection.
16 balls of
Phildar Peluche in many different shades of light blue. This is supposed to become a cosy summer sweater, probably for myself. Peluche is still in Phildar's collection, so it was really an unexpected find. If you look at
this picture you can see some of the Peluche colours. I think I have
ciel, opale, denim and
flanelle, but a couple of others too.
4 more balls of
Peluche, but in a red/pink mix that reminds me of beetroot salad. This is for a scarf, for myself or possibly for my mother in law. The colour is not in the picture mentioned above, but it has the same short colour sections as
fennec, but in red, pink and bordeaux.
When I came back to the shop today, some other yarns had surfaced. I was delighted to find 8 balls of
Schulana Punta Cana, a ladder ribbon in grey, misty blue and copper.
(See here) This is typical scarf material, but I have visions for summer and hope to make a t-shirt or a cami. Either to wear as it is, or under a jacket at work.
I also found a strange and lovely yarn from Filatura di Crosa, called Ricordo. I have tried to find photos via Google but the closest I have come is a description from an eBay seller who says it is "hair and dots". Very strange, 70 percent mohair and probably very itchy and scratchy. I have no idea what this might want to become. So far the balls look like four chocolate coloured punk kittens, with multicoloured spots all over.
Knitting:I have finished another dubbelmössa, and it is really nice.
My leftover shawl in many shades of blue is finished, but I have hundreds of yarn ends to deal with.
I knitted another lengthwise scarf in some of my crazy blue eBay yarn.
I have started on the Peluche Beetroot scarf.
Gifting:Apart from more and nicer birthday presents than I ever can deserve, I just received my second package in the Second round of Nordic secret friend. This time the package was supposed to contain something nice, not necessarily related to knitting. Marianne L sent me a detective story and some lovely winecharms that might be able to work overtime as stitchmarkers. We'll see.
Outgoing gifts for birthday guests:
The not-so-famous Danish October bag (if I remember its name correctly) suddenly got its handles sewn-on and it caught the flight to Umeå with my sister Signe.
The pink Lengthwise scarf fell in love with my mother, and vice-versa. They are now happily visiting Brussels together.
The blue Lengthwise scarf fell for my sister Sigrid, who declares that the dangling yarn ends are a design feature. She should know.
The dark blue Morning surf scarf was happy to wrap itself around my sister Bodil, and off they went.
Happiest of all was the chest of drawers where I keep my yarn and knitting material. It can breathe again, but rest assured it is just a temporary relief...

Let me quote a famous singer: "If you don't know me by now, you'll never ever really know me, oooooooh". Maybe later, babes.
