More cheap yarn?

The bargain store around the corner sells a Lana Grossa arn called Piu, it's the same as Filatura di Crosa's Adhoc Piu, sold by Elann. Elann only has camel beige, my little shop only has black (or charcoal?). It's a wool/acrylic mix in a super bulky (polar) weight. Elann figures that 13-16 balls are necessary for a sweater. Given that the price is 0.55 euro per ball, I might need to go back there in my lunch hour. A big black sweater is always useful. The only thing that holds me back is that I have wool for a "Sunday" cardigan, and a mercerised cotton for a striped tank top waiting in one of my office desk drawers, all from the same cheap source. Hmm. I'll go there at lunch and see what I think. As you can see from the photo in Elann's page, the yarn is made of many thin strands, with very little twist. Snag risk ahead.

  • Hi Jorun, where do you buy yarn in Luxembourg these days? I used to visit a textile shop quite near Place de Paris (Origer was the street name if I remember correctly). Went back there in May, and now there's a cafeteria. -- But luckily found some consolation when visiting the Hela hardware shop in Bettembourg. They sell yarn these days!

  • Anne,
the bargain store I refer to is the "Kleinpreismarkt" in Monopol Gare. They have an unpredictable stock, sometimes it's fluorescent acrylics, sometimes it's two year old Lana Grossa in really nice colours. On the top floor they have some yarn, mostly Schachenmayer (?). Not a very wide choice, but worth checking.

There is a small shop on rue de Bains, with nice expensive yarn but I always feel intimidated by the shop owner, I don't know why!

In Belle Etoile there is a yarn/sewing supplies store on the upper floor (close to Habitat and Blokker) but they seem to veer towards patchwork and quilting.

There is a shop in Bereldange, opposite Espace shopping center, called Bouton d'Or. I have only been there once, and then it was for something else, but if I remember right, they sell some interesting knitting yarns.

Hela in Bettembourg? I need to go there!
