Vad är KYUSS?

Origin: Palm Springs, CA, USA
Status: Disbanded

Kyuss carved a niche for themselves, with their highly unique brand of sludgy guitars and psychedelic, 70's overtones. I first heard about the band via several reviews of Wretch, none of which were good at all (one thought it was a truly awful album). After reading glowing reviews of Blues, I bought both albums. Wretch isn't a bad album at all, but it does lack the distinctiveness of the other albums (it is the only Kyuss album not produced by Masters Of Reality frontman Chris Goss, and his influence is readily apparent). And The Circus Leaves Town was their most adventurous album, and after repeated listens I think it's their best.

Though the band broke up in late 1995, ex-members are now involved in new bands, one featuring Josh Homme, another (Slow Burn) featurin John Garcia and Nick Oliveri, and still another featuring Scott Reeder and Alfredo Hernandez (apparently Hernandez and Reeder have returned to their pre-Kyuss band). All three bands are apparently recording at this time.

vad betyder Kyuss?

John Garcia (sångare) har en gång sagt följande när någon frågade vad kyuss betydde: "It is a character from Dungeons and Dragons. But we only used it because we thought it was a cool name. If you were to look it up in the dictionary, it would say Four guys from the desert playing kick ass rock and roll"
