Junior Handling in General
Junior Handling is a branch of dog exhibition for young people in the
age of 10-17 years. In contrast to ordinary show handling, it is the
handler being judged, according to his or her ability to present the
dog. The Junior Handler’s task is to promote the dog’s
exterior advantages while presenting it in the show ring, and make it
easy for the judge to consider the dog’s appearance. The excellent
Junior Handler is discrete and manages to make the dog visible, while
not showing him- or herself. One of the cornerstones in Junior Handling
is as well to demonstrate good sportsmanship and knowledge about the dog
being handled. Another aspect is the communication between handler and
dog. There has to be a good contact between the two, for the handler to
finely convey guidance to his or her dog. A cheerful approach of the
handler towards the dog is of utmost importance; however, the approach
shall not be in conflict with the discrete handling of the dog.
At this webpage you will find information concerning the Junior Handling
sports in the five Nordic countries. You will find that there are as
many similairities as differences in the ways of conducting the
competitions and in the forum you are given the opportunity to discuss
handling in the countries. The forum also allows for handlers to network
and bond with like-minded. Moreover, this site is not limited for
handlers in the Nordic countries, as handlers from everywhere are warmly
welcomed to take part of this Junior Handling site. The website is far
from complete but hopefully you will bring the initiative and
contribute with results, photos and opinions. If you notice any faults
or have any information that could be added, pleace notify me.
Lastly, a HUGE thank you to
Katrine Grønfeldt Kryh,
Heini-Maari Keränen and
Auður
Sif Sigurgeirsdóttir, present and former Junior Handlers in Denmark,
Finland and on Iceland who together have contributed with the main parts
of this site.
Remember to leave a pawprint in the Guestbook!
