About the village Olingdal:
|
|
Nestled in the foothills surrounding the lake Härjeåsjön, Olingdal is located about 28 km south of Sveg and about 7 hours driving time from Stockholm. The village is home to just a few families who share a variety of lifestyles from music, painting and woodcarving to farming, forestry and professional business. |
About the activities ...
Open all year, "The Schoolhouse Cottage" provides a comfortable, cozy base for many activities.
The rivers and lakes around Olingdal offer excellent canoeing and fly-fishing. Sportsmen will find a variety of fish in the quiet pools and fast running streams including grayling, whitefish, trout, and char. We will be happy to assist you in making arrangements for the rental of boating and fishing equipment.

Less than a mile away,
Häreåsjön boasts crystal clear water and a
long clean beach known as "Härjedalens Riviera." |
Excellent downhill skiing sites can be found at nearby mountains. A small slope, Björnbacken is located 20 minutes away in Sveg. Larger ski areas are only about an hour away in Björnrike, Vemdalen and Lofsdalen. Cross-country skiers can set out from the schoolhouse door.
The area around Olingdal has a large and well-marked network of snowmobile trails. If you have your own snowmobile, you can connect to the trails directly from the schoolhouse. If you wish to rent equipment, we will be happy to assist you in making arrangements.
And if your interest lies in genealogy...in tracing your Swedish ancestry in the nearby region, you will be pleased to find that churches in the region have maintained extensive records and that local residents enjoy helping visitors to find their family roots.
About the cottage:
The old village schoolhouse was closed to students in the 1950’s and has been completely renovated into a charming cottage which the village now offers for rent to tourists and visitors. "The Schoolhouse Cottage" is completely insulated and has modern electric heat throughout. There is a cozy woodstove in the large gathering room (once the main classroom) and an extra wood-oven in the kitchen.
The living space in "The Schoolhouse Cottage" has been thoughtfully designed to accommodate larger groups or two families who might be vacationing together. It can sleep up to ten people. Located downstairs are a large gathering room, a small sitting/sleeping room, a fully-equipped kitchen, a lavatory and separate shower room, and several storage areas. Located upstairs are three bedrooms, each having two or three beds. (See photos in GUIDED TOUR below.) At this time, "The Schoolhouse Cottage" is not handicapped accessible but we will try, whenever possible, to make arrangements to accommodate the special needs of any guest.
