Gender workshops at Ecotopia

Ecotopia is an annual gathering of a few hundred ecological and social activists; it happens for 2-3 weeks in August, each year at a new place in Europe. There are a lot of workshops each day at Ecotopia on a wide variety of subjects, and most of these workshops are arranged by the participants themselves.

In 1996, the Women's Group of EYFA (the network organising Eocotopia) took the initiative to form a mixed gender group, for women and men working together. This gender group created a series of very popular gender workshops at Ecotopia 1997, Scotland. These workshops used various "creative tools" (brainstorms, theatre plays, rounds etc) to bring out the experiences of the participants, and used these as the starting point of the discussions.

You can get a good idea of the format of the workshops by reading the notes from the myths about sexuality workshop at Ecotopia 2003. At Ecotopia 1997, there were also workshops on communication between men and women, power over and power from within, and other subjects. There is a short (but still rather detailed) report from Ecotopia 1997, and a long version with detailed descriptions of many of the discussions.

Notice: Ecotopia/EYFA is an open forum, attracting people with lots of different opinions. I do not support everything that the people involoved in EYFA or Ecotopia are doing.
