Saturday 12th of August
11.00 at the main stage - Unknown
The first concert at the M'era Luna festival 2000. And naturally we were there to look at it, although we had never heard of this group before. One could describe the music as "electro-rock".
17.40 at the Hangar - Umbra et Imago
We had planned to see the whole of this concert, but as it turned out the start of it collided with Marc Almond's concert. And when we finally go to the Hangar it was too crowded to be there and far too hot. Thus, we saw when they played "Goth Music" and one other song from their last record. It did sound ok, and we would have stayed if it had not been so hot in there!
19.30 at the Main Stage - And One
We saw only bits of this concert and don't really dare to say too much about it. If we had been fans we probably would have enjoyed it. As it was, we preferred to go shopping.
21.00 at the Main Stage - HIM
We only saw bits of this concert and feel that it would be a bit unjust to them to criticise it. How this group so suddenly has gotten so big in Germany remains beyond our understanding.
Sunday 13th of August
12.05 at the Hangar - Mila Mar
Although we had bought Mila Mar's Nova a few months before the festival and did appreciate it, we were pleasently surprised, to say the least. The singer's voice sounded wonderful as did the music. And the audience loved them! The only negative thing we can say about that concert was that it was too short. And now we can hardly wait until we get another chance at seeing them!
12.55 at the Hangar - Estampie
Estampie played after Mila Mar in the Hangar. As their music is very similar it is hard not to compare them a little. Estampie's music is, of course, more medieval-sounding than Mila Mar's. We had expected Estampie to be one of the better concerts this day but after Mila Mar their music fell flat. The begining of the concert, with a huge gong, was excellent. But after that it seemed uninspiring, and the sound quality wasn't the best, either.
15.25 at the Main Stage - Rosenfels
We had never heard this group before the festival and were very surprised when they came on stage and started to play. What were they doing at a gothic/ebm/industrial festival? They sounded like Elton John or some other piano based act playing romantic ballads.
16.35 at the Main Stage - Anne Clark & Band
Anne Clark sounded very much like she does on record. The old stuff had been a bit updated; a little heavier with a 90's 4/4 techno feel. It was pleasant to sit in the grass, drinking beer and listening to her songs, if indeed that is what you call them. She spoke a lot in between the songs (as indeed all through the songs, of course) and came across as very pleasant. The first thing she said was. "i have to rub my eyes to believe you are actually here! The record industry is trying to tell me that you don't exist, but you do!"
17.50 at the Main Stage - Philip Boa & The VooDooclub
As we waited to see Fields of the Nephilim we were stuck in front of this concert. This is yet another one of those groups which are quite unknown outside of Germany. In fact, we believe that you have to have heard Philip Boa and the Voodooclub at a very early age in order to appreciate them today. Entered in one ear and out the other, so to speak.
