Our little friend is scratching himself very much, well he has lots of parasites living "on him". I have actually experienced red hedgehog fleas jumping on me and living for a week....it was a terrible experience. I could not find this little insect. I showered, washed all my cloths, but it was obviously living in my bed and biting only me from all the family members. Finally I washed everything I could and it put an end to it.

External parasites of hedgehogs are:

• mites, can cause scabies in humans
  
  
• ticks, can cause Lyme disease (Borrelia burgdorferi) in humnas. Ticks can be usually found hidden behind hedgehog ears and limbs.
  
  
• fleas, can cause lots of itching!
