Story 17

Even though a hedgehog is looking rather clumsy he can surprise you with his physical abilities! I would not suspect what tiny openings they will try to go through....and sometimes they can get really stuck! As it happened to a hedgie who smelled something tasty in a youghurt container dropped by someone on the grass. He crawled in and it was as good as long as it was something to eat there, but than how to get out????
A guy who told that story said that he saw a hedgehog in the morning in the youghurt container and he also saw him in the afternoon when going back from work. Poor creature spent a whole day trying to get out. It was not easy to get him out, but finally the hedgehog was released from his tasty prison.

Sometimes hedgehog's need to go through small places can make them hurt. If they try to do it on a bottle, or some other sharp stuff, which they can not see.....

If you any time find a hedgehog which behaves strange:

EXAMINE HIM CAREFULLY!!!(wear garden/winter gloves)

If you are not used to animals immediately seek help of a VETERINARY!!!!
If you only try to feed wounded hedgehog, without checking how wounded he might be, you will only extend his suffering....he will die slowly and in pain. If you wait too long, during a warm summer, soon fly will lay eggs in his wounds and the infection will develop. It is not funny to write about it for me, but this summer (2000) I have been asked to take care of hedgehogs which have been hurt and just kept for some time with plenty of food, but luck of a veterinary help (luck of imagination? luck of will to spend some money?). In both cases it was not possible to save them, since it was too late.....
