Paths

Stone path of this type has been made using platic sheets first, as a weed grow protection. Strengthten cloth can be used insted, since it will let the water through. This is not usually a problem in my garden, except early spring, when the snow melts during the day, but the ground is still frozen around and the main path remainds a swimming pool for ducks.

Small "circulating place" has been created to break the straight line which leads to the garden cottage. Generally, I use as little of straight paths as possible.

Stones are very useful in the nordic garden. Not only because of its decorative effects, but also as a heat reservoir, especially during early spring. Stones will accumulate heat during day and "give it back" during nights to the surounding. Plants planted close to stones will develop faster compare to those planted on free land.

kent's path knot To the left:This is an example of a simple path in stone. One disadvantage: weeds will grow through like crazy in the summmer....

The "knot" has been created during long hours of work by my patiend sister. Ground was not especially prepared unbeneeth, except a thinck layer of sand. Frost during the winter/thawing in the spring, has not made damages to this arrangement.

pea stand summer pea stand winter Working with willow requires a bit of courage and patiency but it is a very forgiving material, especially when fresh. Such a pea stand can be also practical in the winter, not only as decoration, but also as a protection for a small apple tree against deer's hunger....
