Garden Calendar

January January

Everything is covered by a soft snow, and for sure it will come even more of it providing a very good protection to all the garden.

February February

More and more sun is shinning. Time of dreaming...and also ordering seeds for the season and planning how, where and what!!!

March March

Time to start preparing for growing seeds or making pots from paper. Some vegetables have to be seeded already now.

April April

Snow storms can come even in the end of April. My patiency is short, I dream to put my fingers in the warm soil...

May May

Finally the ground is thawing!!! Long days make gardening possible up to midnight. Still nights can be cold, and sensitive plants have to be protected.

June June

It is a magical place, where I can acutally SEE plants growing. Everything happens twice as fast as in other places.Every day I come something new has happened.

July July

Summer is on. Strawberries came. Every minute is full on sounds of insects buzzling through and the smells are mixing in the air.

August August

Lillies are finishing their flowering like other perennials. Summer is turing to the end... But this does not take away the enjoyment of summer days.

September September

Still in full beauty. Timne of harvest.

October October

Preparing harvested vegetables for storage. Removing annuals to compost.

November November Protecting perennials, herbs and sensitive plants aginst forst damages by covering them with pine and spruce branches. Seed bags December Garden is sleeping.... Time for making X-mas presents for gardeners! Like those seed bags with seeds collected from the garden in the summer or during gardening trips.

Every year is different in the garden, mainly due to the weather and the way it shapes plant growth and life cycle. But this way, also our life cycle is shaped. Giving maybe in the end more respect and understanding that the time IS passing and will always be. It is as well to accept it, as nature does.

Way to complete the cycle and what we are experiencing is most important of all.
