HEAVE - Lies
Rating 9,5
After "Beguile" and "Self Destruction" the four Swedes of
HEAVE are offering us their third demo-mini-CD in "Lies".
After "Self Destruction" had been a very delicious slab of
finest steel, I was really bating my breath for "Lies" and I
haven't been disappointed for sure!
"Into Your World" shows off the whole extra-class of
vocalist Per Richard, laid over a Melodic Metal-stomper of
middle pace, but that should only be the appetiser for the
"Never Fall" of "Liles"; because the title-track is another
extraordinary track from HEAVE. Armed with a
impressive guitar-line, Richard's vocals drill themselves
directly into your brain. Probably best described as rough
Melodic Metal, it is a very flowing and accessible song,
which you won't get out of ear for a while.
After the nice acoustic-piece "Time", HEAVE again offer is
something that the acoustic version of "Never Fall" on
"Self Destruction" already had been: The highlight of the
CD in a different version. In this case "Lies" has been
re-mixed. For my ears that more often than not goes
horribly wrong, but here the song gets a completely new
face, without e-guitars, but less clear vocals and a slight
female voice, this way re-mixes are real fun!
So, my friends of the soft smack in the face, which will
turn into a pleasure through the great melodies, check
out this band, because it is good, excellent even! And all
the A&R-people at the labels, before you re-discover
HAMMERFALL for the 23.784th time, listen to this quartet,
because that they still don't have a contract is almost a
breach of the Geneva Convention for talented
Metal-bands!

HEAVE - Self Destruction
Rating 9,5
Man, this CD really has an odyssey on its back. Released
in 1998 the band generously sent it to me still that year,
but it has arrived, brace yourselves, just last week... I
guess that's what you call express-mail...
That I still review this mini-CD after all that time has one
simple reason: It's good, very good! Already the opening
"Never Fall" blows me through the room straight through
the next wall. Great riff, then a pumping bass and then
the madness sets in: Crunchy guitars, mid-paced rhythm
and absolutely brilliant vocals. Musically you could roughly
place it into powerful Melodic Metal, but still they own far
more edges than almost all bands of that genre, which
again is proved by the double-bass setting in towards the
end.
"Insanity" then starts out a good bit more modern and
heavier, could almost be categorised as Alternative Metal,
but believe it or not, even that sounds great from HEAVE
(and I can guarantee you, when I start to like Alternative
Metal, it means a lot!). And "Why" also has a modern
touch, but it is embedded so excellently into their melodic
Metal that it all is out of one mould, Per Richard's
outstanding vocals again play a big part in that.
"Die 4 Your Sins" then has something from MEMORY
GARDEN, CANDLEMASS or SORCERER, combined with a
shout-chorus (including some Halford-esque screams)
and increased heaviness, before getting back to the
sound of just before. And to finish the CD; there is a
"laidback version" of "Never Fall", an acoustic version,
which almost reaches the mastery of the original,
because here the voice of Per Richard gets even more
room, which is seized from the spot!
Unfortunately the record-labels again have ignored a
more than just hopeful newcomer. But should you see
this CD anywhere, get it, if you don't like it, I'll take it for
you, guaranteed!

HEAVE - Beguile
Rating 7,5
The first demo-CD of the Swedes from the city of
Swedish chocolate already showed that HEAVE has more
talent than many of those bands that already have a
record-contract in their hands even before forming, just
because they will play what is just hip and trendy one
day.
The quartet mixes powerful Melodic Metal with modern
undertones in the guitars, but never sounding like the
"flavour of the day"-modern-successful-kind-of thing,
because even though the mixture is a bit rough yet, it
shows within its surprising bandwidth a very homogenous
sound.
Be it the very varied "Wasted Years", "Alone" with its
heart-gripping lyrics or the completely acoustic "Cry",
they all already showed back then (1997) that HEAVE is a
band with big potential.

HEAVE - Beguile
Ahhhhh another great release from this power metal band. This is their first release and it does not even sound like it. I haven't
heard of a tight sounding and aggressive metal band since Metallica(old style). Why hasn't any major label inked this awesome
band. Maybe the labels are scared of this kind of greatness. The first Track 'Wasted Years' shows their power and skill, 'Alone'
shows their deeper side. Just pick up this album while you can before they run out. I am excited for this band, everything they
have has a great mix of talent. If there is a fan club, please sign me up!

HEAVE - 'Self Destruction'
Holy Cow!! I couldn't put this Disk down. This album has so much power and conviction, it just makes
me get on my hands n' knees and thank the lord for great metal. This band is going places, that I can tell.
The first song 'NEVER FALL' is my favorite song of them all. If you like: 'ULTIMATUM',
'ANNIHILATOR' and I sense a little bit of 'HELLOWEEN'

STORMBRINGER WEBZINE
HEAVE "Self Destruction"
Heave are :
Per Richard on Lead and Harmony Vocals
Pasi J Lappi in Acoustic Guitar, Synth and Vocal
Patrik Stoor on Guitar and Vocal
Patrik Nikolic on Drums and Vocal
The tracks are :
1. Never Fall
2. Insanity
3. Why
4. Die 4 Your Sins
5. Never Fall (laidback version)
Heave are a metal band from Sweden. Self Destruction is a 5 track demo CD
lasting around 17 minutes. The first track 'Never Fall' starts with a heavy riff,
some great bass before the vocals come in. Per has quite a melodic voice, and
although the music is very heavy, it just fits in perfectly. This track has a strong
melody and is one you just want to keep playing again and again. There drums
have a good solid sound to them and there's some excellent guitar work. The
next track is 'Insanity', this track starts with manic drums and guitars, followed
by some great bass. Again the vocals are superb from Per. There are some nice
changes in direction, mood and tempo. This track has a hard driving rhythm and
once again there's a superb solo.
The third track is 'Why', in comes the heavy riff, driving rhythms, and once
again superb vocals.
The next track is 'Die 4 Your Sins', starting with some intricate guitar work, this
is followed by a hard driving riff as soon as the vocals start. Nice changes in
direction, mood and tempo.
The final track 'Never Fall' (laidback version) is an acoustic version of the first
track. There's some atmospheric keyboards that have been added into the
background and these add depth to the track.
Heave's influences I would have to say are Black Sabbath, Fight, Megadeth and
Metallica, but still seem to have come up with their own style. This is one group
who should have a recording contract!!!

HEAVE
"Self Destruction"
(Self-financed) Rating: 4
Heave issued in 97 the demo "Beguile" that was quite eulogized by us,
because that work showed a matured group and with a particular sound. It
wasn't just an impression, but a conviction, because what we see in this
debut in CD of the swedish group is the verification that Heave is really a
talented group. The influences are many: Black Sabbath, Fight, Megadeth,
Metallica (old phase) and it's going thereabout ... But they have the enough
safety of, even owning idols in which they are based, creating an own
trademark, that, in the end of the bills, can only be defined like Heave style of
playing heavy metal. This mini-CD brings 5 musics, and the last of them is
an acoustic version of the opening track, Never Fall, which has a powerful
melody, that remains in the head even after you remove the disk of
cd-player. Another brilliant moment is Die 4 your Sins, in which the thrash
elements comes to the surface. Keep this name: Heave. They need to be
discovered for a big one label to be settled down once and for all in the
metallic underground. (C.A.)

Up and Coming Artist Spotlight: Heave "Beguile"
By Matt Barber

"The country of Sweden is known for many
things around the world - Vikings, The
Nobel Prize, Massage, et al. However,
the one thing that the world is probably
most grateful to Sweden for, is the
introduction of smörgåsbord.
Smörgåsbord brings the best of everything
together and allows the diner to sample a
little bit of everything, and enjoy the
variety which has been offered.Such is
also the case with Heave, a Metal band on
the rise from Sweden. On their demo,
Beguile, Heave brings together an eclectic
style of Metal music that fills the listener
up, and leaves them asking for seconds.
All four songs on Beguile have a unique flavor which varies from the
others. They are all individual pieces presented in a different manner,
and with a different feel. The biggest diversity, however, is found within
the composition of each individual song.
All four songs highlight a
number of varied elements which shift from track to track. The eclectic
formation of their music doesn’t make Heave progressive in their style
of Metal, however. Heave’s music draws on a great number of
influences, and presents them in a very unique manner, but Heave is
straight ahead Heavy Metal.
Heave is able to successfully combine all the
traditional elements of classic Heavy Metal in a
way that adds a real power to Beguile. Beguile
sees Heave implementing both heavy electric and
acoustic guitars, with driving and searching
rhythms, and clean and heavy vocals. They do this
in such a way as it also highlights their different
musical influences, which, from the sound they
produce, appears to be quite vast in nature. The
end result is a solid original style with great promise
for the future.
The best way to describe Heave’s sound, would be to say that it
expands and shrinks to fit the mood. A good example of this is found in
"Alone". "Alone" starts out with some aggressive shredding, settles into
a groove, heads back to the aggressive side and hits you with some
growling vocals, turns introspective, takes a moments detour with into a
70’s type groove, heads back with serious attitude, and swirls around
and around, even to the point of finding room for a short acoustic piece.
At the end of the song, the listener is left wondering how the band is
able to fit everything in. But they do, and they make it work as a
cohesive piece, although they throw more than a few curveballs on
Beguile.
Heave, just like the great smörgåsbord of their homeland, offers the
listener a table full of all the best, and allows them to sample a little of
each taste. So, If you’re a strict meat and potatoes
Metal fan, Heave probably won’t be something that will
satisfy your musical palate. However, if you like your
Metal steeped in tradition, but presented in a new way,
Heave is a band that you will definitely want to check
out. So, open up your ears, take a listen, and take a bite
of the feast Heave has to offer."
Wessman's reviews
by Wes Royer:
Heave "Beguile" 1997 (Demo)
"Now this is a highly original, yet melodic, piece of art.
Heave blends crunchy metal with plenty of melody. But what's
so unique about their music? First off, they don't immediately
sound like any other act. And second, they mix standard melodic
metal with occasional angry screams, or the acoustic and
tranquil sound of "Cry" (which is actually an unlisted
song). And did you say deep lyrics?... you'll have to hear
it for yourself. Any metal fan, wheter you prefer prog-metal
or thrash-metal, should pick this tape up. Watch out for this
metal act from Sweden in the future."

Beguile - Heave
"Heave - a Hard Rock Band formed in 1995 in Stockholm, Sweden. The Band members are,
Vocalist Per Richard, Patrik Stoor on Guitar, Pasi J Lappi on Bass, and on Drums Patrik
Nikolic'. Hard, Heavy Metal Guitar and Bang Yer Head Drum Beats makes up the sounds and
style of "Heave", priding themselves on getting the crowd to go wild at their live shows. All 4
members have played in other bands before coming together to form what they call themselves as
"Metal For The End Of The Millenium". Their 4-song cassette consists of "Wasted Years",
"Alone", "Memories", and "Be Gone". The songs are made up of mostly sorrow and
heavy-hearted lyrics such as in "Alone"....."What's the point of being born, what's the point of
even being conceived. All my life I've been alone, no friends or family at all. I Hate to be Alone".
And from "Wasted Years"......Why do they all take me for a fool? Why do they hate playing by
the rules? Spinning bottle on the table, when it stops that's when someone dies in vain". The last
track titled "Be Gone" is sexually explicit lyrically and I'm not going to repeat it, so you'll have to
buy the tape! All songs were Written and Arranged by Per, Pasi, and Patrik, and recorded at R.R
Studio in Stockholm, Sweden."

HEAVE-Bequile ****
HEAVE is a new metal band from Sweden. They release a 4-song demo cassette which called "Bequile". They are
playing melodic doom metal with deep and sometimes "weird" vocals.
They sound tight as band with good ideas in their songs, especially in "Alone".In this demo
the guitars have played by the bass player from the band, so there aren't guitar solos.
Heave has now a new guitar player and they prepare their new release.
Their influences are Candlemass and Machine Head but they try (successfully) to make their personal metal sound. They
have a very good production with a very nice artwork on the cassette.
Also you can read the lyrics ( i think "Alone" is the best one also in the lyrics).
If u like melodic doom metal , check the Heave.

HEAVE - "Beguile" * * * * *
Awesome group from Sweden. The only problem is that is very difficult to
give an exact definition about how is the sound of the band, because
they really have much different influences. Sometimes we can remember
The Obsessed (doom american band, on Black Sabbath style), but Heave
isn't too slow. In other moments, we can see traces of Fight. But
the vocal isn't much closer to these bands, and at this point seems like
a more melodic version of Dave Mustaine. Heave don't use solos, and some
hurried will tell that this is lack of technique. But you only need to
hear some instrumental parts of songs like Alone and Memories and then
will see that this is an impression to be immediately wasted. The
production is superb (cover, booklet, recording quality) and this show
that they are on the right way.
