The BigBang theory was built on Hubble´s observation of the redshift.
The expanding Universe was first suggested by Slipher, the exploding Universe by Lemaitre.
It was further developed by Gamow.
The redshift was believed to be a Doppler effect by an expanding Universe.

This meant, that the Universe started in an infinitesimal point, where all materia, all radiation, all physical laws and even time was included. After an explosion - the BigBang - the Universe is expanding.

It is an excellent theory and many eminent theorists have built new theories on this, so that we get good explanations of many questions about the Universe and what we can observe of it.

In many books, however, BigBang seems not only to be a theory - it seems to be something of a religion, a fundamentalistic religion. Everything, that may be regarded as an argument in favour is taken as a truth, that cannot be discussed. Every observation, every argument, that may put doubt on the theory, is scorned.
