Plugin filters are on everybody´s minds these days, and I can understand why. They are fun to play with and many of them are also really useful. I have collected some for you, at this moment there are 1,542 free filters to preview and download, with more to come.

For installation instructions, or if you´re having problems with getting them to work, go to the Filters Installation page.

Most filters have a more artistic area of use, rather than for common web graphics, but can be used for making textures for background, button surfaces etc. Anyway, they are very fun to play around with and sometimes you get surprised. Most of the filters have a wide range of adjustments, so the previews are only examples of what can be done.

If you download some filters, please show the authors your appreciation by sending an email and visit their homepages. They have given these filters to us for free, so give them your feedback. You may use these filters for your own personal use. Do not distribute or use them commercially whitout the authors permission.

Other graphic tools are utilities that makes your life as a designer of graphics and homepages easier. Included is also the excellent PlugIn Commander, PiCo by Harry the Raver which I recommend you to download and learn. Some of the filters available for downloading (at this moment Andrew´s Filter Collection) are compiled using the Plugin Commander, so you need this program to decompile them into 8BF files. Due to the enourmous saving of space and downloading time, more filters will probably be compiled to these small FFL files in the future. There are also many other features in PiCo, such as previews, filter editing etc.

Please, scroll down the page or click below.

GRAPHIC TOOLS

WebVise Totality

WebVise Totality by Auto F/X is six products in one. I have found it to be an excellent tool when optimizing images for the web. It can be used as a stand alone application or as a plug-in which supports Paint Shop Pro amongst many others. A demo can be downloaded from Auto F/X´s site where all its features also are described. WebVise Totality contains the following:

- GIF Compression Engine
- JPEG Compression Engine
- Optimized Dithering Engine
- Digital Watermarker
- Animator
- Hybrid Web Safe Colors

Magic Buttons

Learn how to use the Javascript onmouse effect with the excellent tutorial, Magic Buttons by Professional Web Design. You can also download the tutorial and use it offline. They also have table, frames and form tutorials.

Photoshop Plug-in Manager

A really useful tool if you have many plugin filters made with Filter Factory, which most of the free filters are. With this great FREEWARE, you have control over your filters, no matter how many they are. The Plug-in Manager is made by Michael Johannhanwahr and can be downloaded from his site Johann´s Software & Graphics Pages. While you´re there, take your time and surf around through his pages. He also have some really special backgrounds to download.

PictureDicer

PictureDicer by ShoeString is a great freeware tool that chops any image file into several smaller images, suitable for creating mouseover effects and pseudo-imagemaps on Web pages. It also generates the HTML for a table to contain the partial images and display them so they appear as the original uncut image. Download your copy from ShoeString´s page.

PlugIn Commander, PiCo

With this excellent software by Harry the Raver, you can manage, view and edit FF filters. Also compile the 8BF files into FLL format (or the other way around), which will save a lot of space on the harddrive, plus many more features. Read more about PiCo and download a copy from his page, Premiere Plugin HQ.

Color Browser

One of the best shareware color picker. Open an image on the screen and move a cross hair over it. Shows every pixel´s color in HEX value. Pick up the color you want and paste it into your HTML document. Made by Maximized Software, inc. Try it!
Screenshot Download Color Browser (46k) Maximized Software´s homepage

Microsoft GIF Animator

I have tried several Gif animation programs and find it difficult to say which one is the best. In my opinion, this one is as good as any other. What really makes it great is that it´s free!

Go to Microsoft GIF Animator page and download a copy.
