Ellisiv Järnnäve

Detta är en AoA som jag gjort när jag varit på mitt mera kreativa humör. Jag är mycket förtjust i Anne of Cleves tidebok, där illuminatören plötsligt har struntat i alla plutteblomgrejer och ritat in allt möjligt annat i marginalerna: sniglar på en sida, fågelburar på en annan och så vidare. Här har jag gjort likadant. Det syns inte så bra på just denna bild, men ni kan titta på detaljer längre ner.

Ellisiv Järnnäve

This is in AoA made when I was in a creative mood. I'm very fond of the Book of Hours of Anne of Cleves, where the illuminator has given up the itsy bitsy flowery stuff and covered the margins with other things: snails on one page, birdcages on another aso. This is one of the scrolls where I've made the same. It's hardly visible on this picture, but I've provided details down below.

"Järnnäve", så klart att det lilla odjuret måste ha järnhandskar. Jag är väldigt förtjust i dessa hundliknande drolerier.

The girl's surname means ironhand, of course I provided the small animal with iron gauntlets. I'm fond of these doglike beasts.

Illuminerade brev i allmänhet och adelsbrev i synnerhet var inte vanliga under medeltiden, men de förekom. På FitZ William Museum i Cambridge hade jag tillfälle att se ett brev som förlänade jakträttigheter, där innehållet förtydligats med illuminationer av de djur som mottagaren fick jaga. Här har jag lagt upp bilder på motiveringen till adelskapet.

Illuminated letters and patent of arms are not common during the middle ages, but the did exist. At the Fitz William Museum in Cambridge I had the opportunity to see a letter bestowing hunting rights. To clarify permisible animals was illuminated into the margins of the letter. Here I illuminated the motivations for nobility.
