My name is Gavin Hill and for the past eight years I have been
living and working in Sweden. I grew up in the little southern English town of Wimborne,
although soon after leaving school I left the charm of that little place and moved to
Bournemouth. My parents were divorced when I was quite young and I was sent to live with
another family. I knew that my father, a brother and a sister lived in Bournemouth, so off
I went to get to know them. It was in Bournemouth that I discovered something about
myself, something so truly amazing that it almost blew me away. Isnt it strange how
as a child one can look at something without ever realising its tremendous potential.
Strange because as an adult the potential of that certain something can suddenly become so
obvious and so absolute that one can find oneself trapped deep within its spell. I became
trapped, became captivated, became completely mesmerised by my new discovery. In fact, it
became my life.
I moved to Sweden in November of 1989 and I brought with me my discovery. The
egg of my discovery had hatched back in July of 1984, and over the years it has grown into
a fine young living thing. It has taken years of dedication to bring my discovery to where
it is today. Years of devotion and years of perseverance to bring it towards adulthood and
an ultimate goal.
Now, maybe I should tell what it was that I discovered, maybe I should let you
in on my little secret. What I discovered was the pen and the paper. What I discovered was
the ability to explain myself without the need of verbalisation. Dont get me wrong,
I love to talk. I love to talk, but I much prefer to put words upon paper. The years have
treated me well and my imagination has never ceased to offer me new ideas to work upon.
The first thing that I ever wrote was a poem. It was back in July of 1984, a warm and
sunny day in the dirt and grime of the one room apartment that I was living in at the
time. I wrote it to prove to a friend that I could, although I had no idea, at the time,
just how much that poem was going to affect the rest of my life. That one poem became two,
and two became three. That one poem was the start of an anthology that was finally
completed in February of 1994. Over one hundred poems in four different chapters, plus
paintings and drawings by five incredibly talented, young artists to accompany them.
In September of 1987 I began work upon a horror book. The book itself is
entitled, The Maze, and it was completed in March of 1994. Just before its completion I
began work upon an action/adventure entitled, The Blood Tree. In September of 1995 I
became very interested in the Same (Saami) culture here in Sweden. A book was started
without any further delay and by December of 1996, it too was complete. It has been
translated into Swedish (Den Samiska Kulturen.) In English it is entitled, The Real
Northmen. In October of 1996 I began work upon, The Watchman, which is a part two to The
Blood Tree. I have three other books planned out from start to finish (The Happening, The
Dream & The Lost years,) plus I have ideas for three more.
