The Protoss are an ancient psychic race created by the Xel'Naga in their ambition to becomegods, the
Xel'Naga gave the Protoss (first-born) advanced psionic powers
(powers of the mind) and watched the Protoss slowly develop and
learn to use their powers. When the time felt right the Xel'Naga made
themselves known to the Protoss telling them that they had created
the Protoss and now sought to live among them. The Protoss being
highly religious looked upon their creators as gods and welcomed
them into their world. Things began to crumble as
the Protoss began to question their "gods"
eventually war broke out among the Xel'Naga and
the Protoss, using their refined powers quickly over
came the Xel'Naga, only a small number of the
Xel'Naga were able to escape the Protoss settling
on the far side of the galaxy where they once again
began the creation of a new race...the Zerg.. The
Protoss are a highly intelligent race gifted with
psionic powers that is committed to their way of
thinking. This oneway of thinking has become
hindrance in recent times as they now have to deal more and more
with the volatile Terran Confederacy which creeps ever further into their
space. All Protoss share a special psychic connection to each other
and their homeworld, Auir. With training, a single Protoss can learn to
tap into this mental gestalt and use its power to enact a variety of
physical effects, including the manipulation of space-time itself. The
military caste of the Protoss, the Templar, can mentally form weapons
and shields without a physical power source. The Protoss refuse to
confirm or deny the rumors that they are capable of reading and
manipulating the human mind. To access the collective
consciousness, the Protoss must construct great crystal nexus points
that act as foci for mental energy and links to their homeworld.
Although present Terran technology cannot detect or access the
Protoss gestalt, it is theorized that the Zerg may not only be aware of
it, but have been drawn to it from across the galaxy. |
| Gameplay: |
| The Protoss are the strongest of the three races by far. This strength comes at a high price, while at any given time individual units of the Protoss maybe stronger then those of its opponents the high price of units and buildings will make their numbers alot smaller. The Protoss psionic powers give them the advantage of such powers as Mind Warp and Control. Protoss units are not so much as created but "beamed" from their home world of Auir via the Gateway. The single most advantage that the Protoss have is the Archon, a combination of three or more High Templars its power dwarfs anything the other races can offer in one unit. With strict resource management and careful attention to use and deployment of units the Protoss make a formidable force. |
