This is our Starcraft introduction page ! First we will tell you, beginners about real-time strategy games then a little about how you can play Starcraft.
Now, maybe one and another of you out ther wonders what a real-time strategy games is. Well, real-time means that while you are playing time goes by. As opposed to turn based games where you could take weeks to make your decisions, real-time forces you to make your decisions quickly. This gives the attacker a little advantage beacuse his forces alredy set for the attack. If the defender not have his forces where the enemy attacks his bouldings can be destroyed !!
Note: Beacuse Starcraft not have been released yet, the information isn't 100% true or sure...
Ways to play:
1 player versus the computer in a campaign.
1 player versus the computer in a custom mission.
2 player via modem.
Up to 8 players over an IPX network.
Up to 8 players using Kali.
Up to 8 players using Battle.Net.
Campaign mode:
This is probably the first way you'll play Starcraft. You will start of playing easy missions that get more and more difficult as the game goes on. You can play a campaign as either one of the three Races: Terran, Zerg or Protoss.
Custom missions:
As in War Craft 2 you will be able to play custom missions made by Blizzard or another person. These extra missions add a lot of replayability to the game. I am thinking about making a designers guide for people who make custom missions but even if I don't do that I will at least post as many custom missions as I can on my page.
2 player Modem:
Starcraft will be playable by modem. So any 2 people with modems and a copy of Starcraft can play against each other. Most modem games are played on custom missions.
8 player IPX network:
The only places I've seen this many computers on an IPX network is at an office. I expect there will be many inter company wars going on during lunch hours, and some during work hours (you bad boy :) This is probably going to be the most fun way to play Starcraft, if you can get your hands on the network :)
8 players using Kali:
Kali is program that fools your computer into thinking the internet is an IPX network. So for those of you who can't get your hands on a network go get Kali. Visit my Kali page for more info on how to play Starcraft over the Internet.
8 players using Battle.net:
Battle.Net is Kali in a different incarnation. The biggest difference is that it's free! Blizzard is providing Battle.Net to anyone who buys their latest games (ie: Diablo and Starcraft). For more info on Battle.net check out my Battle.net page.
