The Swedish Dendrobatid Society, SDS, was founded
in 1991 by Swedish frog hobbyists, with the aim to exchange information
about the care and husbandry of Poison Dart Frogs and Mantellas
in captivity.
The magazine Pilgiftaren ("The Arrow-Poisoner")
The most important means to distribute information within the society
is the magazine Pilgiftaren, published with 1-2 issues annually. Pilgiftaren
has articles on frog care and breeding, info about frog species and
varieties, terrarium techniques, food, and plants. Reports from travels
in tropical frog habitats can also be found within the 20 pages. Colour
photos, many of which are published for the first time, fill two pages
of each Pilgiftaren.
SDS also has a mailing list. The list is exclusive to members and
acts as a complement to the magazine for matters concerning the hobby
and society.
How to become a Member
Membership in the SDS costs 200 SEK a year. Contact
Simon Hultby (cashier) or David Mårding (chairman).
Meetings
The members meet twice a year. At these meetings
frogs change owners, start-up cultures for food animals are for
sale, as are plants suitable for terrariums. We usually have slide
shows in Swedish or English.
