CONDOLENCES
ON THE ASSASSINATION OF
TEUKU DON ZULFAHRI
Brother Teuku Don Zulfahri,
the secretary-general of the Council of the Free Acheh Movement
(MPGAM), was brutally assassinated in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday,
June first at 14.30. He was shot dead in cold blood by an Achehnese
traitor sent by Malik Mahmood of Acheh Sumatra Liberation Front
based in Singapore.
Teuku Don Zulfahri was a Free
Acheh fighter who had unreservedly sacrificed himself for the
struggle of self-determination of the Achehnese. He had also
unflinchingly supported the popular demand to have a referendum
in Acheh, and tried hard to surrender the issue of Acheh to
the Achehnese themselves to decide - not dictated by a certain
group.
In fostering the struggle of
the Free Acheh Movement, he unavoidably encountered many friends
and sympathisers as well as uncompromising opponents who had
always threatened him and his friends. Yet, the deceased was
not afraid of intimidation in facing all those threats till
he was cowardly murdered by Mr Malik Mahmud's mercenaries.
This is the second political
assassination on MP GAM members in Kuala Lumpur within two months.
On the tenth of April, 2000, the mercenaries of Malik Mahmud
had brutally murdered a member of MP GAM, Tengku Hj Usman Ibrahim
and his aid, Tengku Abdul Wahab. Tengku Usman was a senior leader
of the Free Acheh Movement from Kembang Tanjung, Pidie District,
who had been in and out of Indonesian jails for eight times
for his activities in the movement. He was also the one who
first received the arrival of Tengku Hasan di Tiro from America
to Acheh in 1976 and took him personally to the jungle.
Before he came to Malaysia five
months ago, he had collected hundreds of millions of rupiahs
for the movement and sent to Malik Mahmud in Singapore. So,
his assassination was a reward from Mr Malik Mahmud who now
enjoys his live with his relatives in several capitals of Europe.
We hereby strongly condemned
this criminal and barbaric actions and we believe that God will
punish him and his mercenaries alike. We the family of the Free
Acheh Movement in Europe with great sadness express our deep
condolences to all members of MPGAM and the family of Teuku
Don Zulfahri.
We sincerely hope that this
tragedy will bring us more energy and determination to continue
our struggle for an independence Acheh.
Stockholm, 1 June 2000
Signed
Dr Husaini Hasan
Chairman
