Arenan, Stockholm(Sweden) 301001
Time for some gig-action again! The desicion to move the gig to a bigger venue was good, since the
bigger one was sold out too and that means more people screaming :)
First band on stage was Vanishing point. I had heard before that their CD would be pretty bad, but they
would be a great live-band. And they were.. :) Tight, some times fast and a bit progressive metal was delivered
from the Australian guys. They seemed to enjoy this gig a lot, or maybe they just put on their "gig-mask".
That really doesen't matter since they did an excellent gig. Nothing more to say about that.
------------------------------
The next band to enter was the reason that I showed up. Sonata Arctica.
That great felling that comes when the lights are out and the intro starts
is lovely and it was so this day too. :)
I was prepared to hear "Weballergy" as first song after the "Silence" intro, but that was not the case.
They started off with "San Sebastian" and actually it took a small while for me to find out which song it was..
But that doesen't matter. It's a great song.. too. =)
The band seemed to be very excited, maybe since the last two gigs they made in Sweden (on the Stratovarius tour) was
a bit nervous. Especially Tony and Jani were using the whole stage to dance around and freak out. Tony has grown to
a real front man now when Mikko has taken over the keyboards, which he did great as always. Mikko told me afterwards
that this was one of the best gigs during this tour.
Marko acted a bit strange during this gig. He didn't smile at all, and just seemed that he wanted to go home.. Tony tried
his best to get some smiles from him by "fooling around" a bit, but it didn't helped. :( Not so much to say about Tommy's
moves. He's kind of stuck behind his drums ;)
The "bad" thing with warmup bands is the short stage-time. I wouldn't cry if the Sonata's would have been allowed to play for at least an hour.
But that's of course not up to them..
In all this was an awsome gig as always! And I'm really looking forward to the next time.. Maybe New Years Eve in Helsinki..

I have to admit that it would be really cool to see Kai Hansen perform live too. And his voice was absolutely amazing!
The rays did an pretty good gig too, nothing spectacular I think. I haven't seen them before so I didn't have anything to compare with.
They seemed relaxed and had fun too I think. The keyboard player from Vanishing Point helped them out on they keys in some songs, Henjo
only played guitar.
They played for some 1 hours 45 mins or so.. after the first encores the lights were on and the audience began to move out, but then they guys
played some more songs and the audience had to go back again.. :)
They did, I think, 3 or 4 songs from "Land Of The Free" which was great to hear! They also played a few from "Somwhere Out In Space" and "Powerplant"
, but mostly from the new album of course.
It was a pretty ordinary gig for Gammaray I guess.
------------------------------
It's a big difference to see gigs in Finland and Sweden. I Finland they mostly don't use fences and the audience is pretty
calm(in moving around), but still very loud and great. But in Sweden you almost have to "fight" to stand up and that can be a bit
tempting after a while. I didn't "feel" the audience during the Gammaray gig since I moved back from my spot in the front row
after Sonata's gig. But I guess that it was even more "fighting" when the rays played..
