" It's a superhero, science fiction, samurai drama, urban nightmare, gothic romance. "

- Frank Miller

Ronin begins with a samuraisequenze, introducing the Yojimbo, and his Lord, Lord Ozaki. Lord Ozaki has in earlier years stolen the Bloodsword from a demon named. It's pretty clear that Agat wants the sword back, which makes the Yojimbo wonder why the demon is still alive. His master tells him that Agat cannot die, until the Bloodsword have tasted innnocent blood and not until thereafter it can kill its ex owner. Lord Ozaki gets it though, after being more or less tricked into a statement of safeness. Of course the former yojimbo want retribution. He does seem to get it, but the powers of Agat (and the Ronin) has been underrestimated; Agat manage to continue his life, in the Bloodsword.Anyway, that's how I think it is.
The Future comes next. With the specialpowered the shapechanging demon Agat, the revengewanting Ronin, and among others Billy, the computer Virgo and Casey McKenna. And a 21th century New York.

I find the first chapter most satisfying. Very nice samurai-in-action art and a good story. After being thrown into the future it loses in story, it gets weaker and the story develops at lower speed. And it has, to me, a very confusing ending. Really good art though, and Lynn Varley does the coloring in a fantastic way.
A very good comicbook, overall.

" Ronin tells the tale of a dishonored 13th-century samurai who is reborn in a corrupt and computerized 21st century New York with one last chance for redemption. His quest takes him through the violent Manhatten netherworld, and brings him face-to-face with passion, betrayal, murder... and the reincarnation of his sworn enemy, the ancient demon Agat. On a bleak and decaying battleground, the two foes wage a final war: to settle past debts, and for the soul of a dying civilasation. "
