The most modern assault rifle in use in Finland today is the Sako m/92, or RK 95 as the
military call it. It is a improvement over the older Valmet series. The idea was to make
a weapon that was even tougher, and more flexible. The receiver is milled just as in the RK 62, and not stamped
as in RK 76. The weapon has a FN-style folding stock (hence the designation TP)
and the ability to shoot standard NATO rifle grenades. The muzzle brake also gives the weapon considerably
less recoil than RK 62/76 or AKMīs. It is also relatively easy to mount different kinds of extra equipment on the weapon. Such as
a silencer or a night vision scope. Only one batch of a couple of thousand RK 95īs were bought by the defence forces
when the politicians decided to buy cheap chinese and ex-DDR AKM:s instead.
