7.62 RK 62

This is the standard assault rifle of the Finnish Defence Forces. Finland bought russian AK-47īs in the 50īs, designated RK 54. From these the Valmet series of assault rifles was developed. The Finns liked the RK 54, but it could be improved. So RK 62 is mainly just an improvement. They are machined to a very high quality. Their receiver is also milled, and not stamped as in the AKMīs, the simplified AK-47īs. They are even more tough, durable and reliable than the original AKīs. The sights is one of the other major improvement. These together with the better machining provides better accuracy. The Finnish weapons also has fold-up tritium night sights. Most of the weapons has a fixed stock. The hollow tube contains the cleaning kit. The folding stock version (TP) is used mainly by units that really need them for practical reasons, such as the paratroopers.
