7.62 KvKK 62
KvKK (light machinegun) is a Finnish weapon manufactured by
Valmet and that was accepted for service in 1962, originally designated 7.62 KK 62.
It uses the same ammunition as the assault rifles,
the russian short 7.62 cartridge. The KvKK is usually issued at 1 per squad. It
is reasonable reliable and accurate even at long distances. Just like world war 2 MG42 it has
a very high rate of fire which most likely would scare the enemy soldiers beeing shot at
(just as MG42 did). But it also has some drawbacks. Mainly that the barrel canīt
be changed. It is also somewhat heavy and clumsy compared to a modern squad automatic
weapon. In recent time many infantry units have started using the PKM medium machine gun
instead. Albeit heavier itīs full-sized rifle cartridge can pack more punch, it is also more reliable.
