The Finnish T-54īs were bought in the 60īs, just as the T-55īs. According to official
figures 30 T-54īs were used up until recently as can be seen on the colour pictures
in the gallery below that are all taken during a exercise in 2001. As for the
late years they were popularely used to train infantry in how to deal with tanks.
In this role it was often equipped with target simulation device for added realism.
Their wartime task was certainly not as main battle tanks, but rather as mobile infantry
supporting guns, just as they were used for example during the civil war in Yugoslavia. In this
role it might have been effective, if it just didnīt come too close to enemy infantry
with their light anti-tank weapons and avoided enemy armour.
