55 S 55
During the second world war Finland got deliveries of the german Panzerfaust (Panssarinyrkki F1 and F2) and
Panzerschreck (Panssarikauhu) anti-tank weapons. These were then used succesfully against soviet tanks.
Influenced by these weapons Finland developed the 55 S 55 (55 mm calibre, m/55) grenade launcher, just as Soviet Union developed
their RPG-2 and the famous RPG-7 rocket-propelled grenade launchers. But as in Panzerfaust, 55 S 55īs propellant
burns out before the grenade has left the tube. 55 S 55 is obsolete by modern standards, but as other Finnish
weapons it was made of very high quality. It was stored up until the late 1990īs.
