Panssariajoneuvo 8x8

The Patria AMV is a new second-generation (while the XA-series is a first generation) Finnish armoured vehicle. The need for a new type of vehicle in the Finnish army was mainly because of the ever increasing armour on the XA-series which made it loose its amphibious capability. AMV is also a modular vehicle which makes it more flexible. The Finnish army have to start with ordered 100 AMV´s that will replace some of the older vehicles in the XA-series. They will be armed with a remotely controlled turret with either a 12.7 mm NSVT (ItKK) or a 40 mm grenade machinegun. The picture below shows one of the first delivered AMV´s in the finnish army, undergoing trials with AMV in the IFV-mode, armed with a GDLS Delco LAV 30-turret, except the 30 mm Bushmaster II automatic cannon it has a PKT machinegun and smoke and illumnation dischargers. The strength in AMV truly lies in its modular structure.
