Edström was military active in Sollefteå (nothern part of Sweden). He raised his own breeding of hunting dogs, author of dog and hunting books, developer of the Swedish of Seegebaden sledge amongst other things.
In 1911 to 1913 Einar Edström did probationary service by the Västernorrlands regiment. During this time by the regiment he participated in trials conducted by LtCol Trönnberg. The aim with the trials was to see how messenger dogs and draught dogs performed within the Army. This was the time when he got his solidly established interest for working dogs in the military system.
In 1936 there is a royal proclamation and Major Edström is able to found the Army Dog Centre.
