HISTORY

The history about Deep Purple MK 2 started in the spring 1969, when Ian Gillan and Roger Glover left the band "Episode six" to play with Deep Purple.
Purple was looking for a new singer and an old friend to Ritchie said that Gillan might just be the one. Ian Gillan was just as interested as DP and he saw an oppurtunity for Roger Glover to also join the band, and so he did. Deep Purple MK 2 was now a fact!
They started to rehearsal and they also tried to get gigs, struggling to establish a profile in the UK. At the same time Roger Glover were working on his classical inspired project "Concerto fo group and orchestra", which DP later was going to record. The reaction to their first shows was good. The first song written by MK 2 was "Speed king", which came from Roger Glover, Ritchie wanted something fast to open the set with, and that riff seemed to be the right thing to do. When "conserto for group and orchestra" was finnished the band started the recording of "In Rock" at De lana Lea studios in London. When the album hit the record shops in early 1970, it was a huge succes.
