The bassette horn is pitched in F and nearly as big as the Alto clarinet, i.e somewhere in between the
soprano B-flat and Bass clarinets. Buffet Crampon also makes a basset clarinet pitched in A.
This clarinet is not seen very often but used in some clarinet works, like the "Duo concertant" by Mendelson
or the "Grand partita" by Mozart. There are two variants of the bassette, the straight clarinet and
the bent (crooked) horn, which uses a floor peg as support.
