1. Question: How many food additives are used in Sweden and the EU, Norway and Switzerland?

(Both Norway and Switzerland now follow the same rules as the EU.)
Answer: Nobody knows- there exists no complete list.
1. There are 326 food additives with E numbers and an unknown number of food additives without E-numbers that are allowed in Sweden and the EU (plus Norway and Switzerland) of which at least 94 are banned in some other countries!
 See # 10 below.

2. Food additives need not be listed under their E-numbers, but can be printed with only their names, so they look like food ingredients.

3. Modified starches need not be listed with their E-number E1404-E1452, and need not even be listed under their names.
They can be listed only as modified starches.

4. A whole group of additives called "processing aids", such as for example the solvents used to make and extract “natural colors” and “natural flavors” and the oils and fats used in bread tins so the bread does not burn and comes out easy   (and which of course enter to the bread) and many others etc. do not even have to be listed on the label.
Almost all processing aids remain in the food.
Processing aids can be an E-number or a substance without an E number.
This should not be allowed.
All food additives should be listed under their E-numbers and all processing aids should be listed by their E number or their name- if they do not have an E number- so people can easily see what is in the food that they eat.

2. Question: How many chemical food additives are used in the synthetic flavors that are allowed in Sweden and the EU, Norway and Switzerland?

Answer: Nobody knows-there exists no complete list.
More than 20 000 chemicals are found in the at least 6000 synthetic flavors that are used in Sweden and the EU, Norway and Switzerland and none of them need to be listed on the packaging.
The company only legally has to list aroma or flavor on the ingredient list package.
There is no complete list of all the chemicals used to create all the synthetic flavors that are permitted for use in food and in all non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks.
Synthetic flavors do not consist only of a single chemical to create a certain flavor.
Many chemicals are required to create a synthetic flavor.
For example, a certain strawberry flavor (of which there are many, depending how sweet, how acidic or how intense etc. the strawberry taste that you want) in strawberry yoghurt consists of:
Strawberry Flavor (according to U. S. Patent No. 3,686,004):
Geraniol
Ethyl phenyl methol glycidate
Vanillin
Ethyl pelargonate
Isoamyl acetate
Ethyl butyrate
2- methyl-2-pentenoic acid
1 - (prop-1-enyl) -3, 4, 5-trimethoxybenzene
NOTE: As written before, there are many different synthetic strawberry flavors available, each with a different set of chemicals.
Some synthetic flavors consist of over 30 different chemicals, but only aroma or flavor has to be written on the label.
When a flavor is written as being “natural identical” on the label, it simply means that it is a completely synthetic artificially constructed flavor consisting of chemical ingredients that are close in proportion to the natural ingredients found in the natural flavor.
Each of these chemicals must be considered as a separate food additive.
Some of the proven health effects caused by the chemicals in synthetic flavorings are:
- ADD-Attention Deficit Disorder
- ADHD-Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
- aggression
- anger
- behavioral changes
- depression- including severe depression
- hyperactivity
- learning difficulties
- blood in the urine
- cancer
- coma
- liver and kidney damage
- respiratory problems
- skeletal changes
- stomach ulcers
- and tremors etc.
A typical person can easily ingest over 100 food additives (food additives and the chemicals found in synthetic flavors) each day.
A scoop of ice cream with different colors and flavors can contain over 150 different food additives.
Uncontrolled
There exists no required  testing of the combination of food additives with each other, synthetic flavors with each other, or any possible combination of food additives, processing aids and synthetic  flavors with each other yet they are often found in the same food together!
All food additives, synthetic flavors and processing aids are tested separately.
They are never tested together.
Note: Do not think that because of this information that there is nothing left to eat!
Food additives, processing aids and synthetic flavors are found in virtually only processed foods.
If you buy unprocessed, raw (and hopefully organic) foods and prepare them yourself you will not have to worry about this danger.
Food manufacturers virtually always list on the label if the   flavoring ingredients are totally natural, such as vanilla instead of ethyl vanillin, vanillin, or vanilla flavoring, all of which have caused   serious health effects.
See the list: "Dangerous Flavors that are allowed in Sweden and the EU, Norway and Switzerland."
Avoid all “natural flavors” and all “organic flavors”
“Natural flavors” are virtually always derived using dangerous chemicals (solvents) such as acetone, diethyl ether (which always contains E321), hexane, methanol, and E1520 propylene glycol, etc
(See the section: “Dangerous Processing Aids”)
These dangerous chemicals can never be completely removed and remains in the   “natural flavor.”
Since they are all considered as processing aids they do not have to be legally listed as an ingredient on the ingredient list although they do remain in the “natural flavor” (and “natural color.”)
“Natural flavors” are also allowed to contain (without having to write it on the ingredient list!):
- E202 Potassium sorbate
- E211 Sodium benzoate
- E320 BHA
- E385 Calcium disodium-EDTA
Organic flavors cannot be made using dangerous chemicals but are allowed to contain:
- Acacia gum-see E404
- Citric acid which might contain process free glutamic acid if made from corn –see E620
- Dextrins and maltodextrin (malt dextrin) both of which do   contain process free glutamic acid - see E620
Food manufacturers always list on the label if the   flavoring ingredients are totally natural, such as vanilla for example instead of ethyl vanillin, vanillin, or vanilla flavoring, all of which have caused   serious health effects.
See the list: "Dangerous Flavors that are allowed in Sweden and the EU, Norway and Switzerland."
Natural foods such as ground up vanilla, herbs, spices, and concentrated fruit or vegetable juices or dried fruit or vegetable powders etc. are safe flavorings.
 Avoid all “natural colors”
The same dangerous chemicals that are used to make “natural flavors" are also used to extract "natural colors" such as E140, E141, E150 a-d, E160, E160b, E160c, E160e, E160f, E161g and possibly   E160d and E161b.
These same dangerous chemicals also remain in the "natural colors" and once again since they are considered as processing aids they do not legally have to be listed as an ingredient on the ingredient list.
Safe colors can be produced by using foods such as beetroot juice or  powder, blueberry juice or powder, carrot juice or  powder, saffron, sepia, spinach powder or  juice,  spirulna, sweet red pepper powder and many others etc.

3. Question: How many food additives, processing aids and synthetic flavors are allowed to be used in the beer, wine and spirits that are sold in Sweden and the EU, Norway, and Switzerland?

Answer: Nobody knows-there exists no complete list.
According to the EU there does not have to be an ingredient list of all the food additives, processing aids and synthetic flavors found in the alcohol product on the label.
All organic wines are allowed to have the dangerous food additive E220 Sulphur Dioxide added to them just like all non-organic wines.
All wines including all organic wines contain added E220 unless they state on the label that no sulphur dioxide is added.
Excellent organic wines without added E220 are 1. Andre Stentz France 2. Badger Mountain USA, 3. Coturri USA, 4. Didgier France 5. Frey USA, 6. Nevada County, USA, 7. Organic Wine Works USA, 8. Robinvale Australia, 9. Pierre Frick France, 10.Stellar South Africa 11. Temple Bruer Australia etc.
Note: The extremely healthy phytochemicals such as the polyphenols etc. that are found in red wine, are found in even higher concentrations in dark grape juice, and blue and red grapes- without the dangerous health effects of alcohol.
E220-E228 also used as a color fixative in dried fruit, but it is often undeclared, especially in the case of bulk dried fruit and dried fruit which a store, including sometimes health food stores, has packed itself.
It is completely unnecessary to use E220-E228 in any food or wine and E220-E228 can be fatal to people who are sensitive to sulfur.
About 40 people die each year in the United States due to a fatal reaction to E220-E228.

4. Question: How are all food additives, processing aids and all synthetic and natural flavors approved for use in Sweden and the EU, Norway and Switzerland? (Or: "Of course I believe you.")

When a company wants to get a new food additive, processing aid, or synthetic or natural flavor (or pesticide or cosmetic or personal care product ingredient) approved, they send all the research that they themselves have done –or paid another company to do- which shows how "harmless" the new substance is, to the authorities in Brussels.
You can really imagine just how "neutral, independent and honest” all this information is, when the research was done by the company that has an interest in the additive being approved.
It costs an average of 15 million dollars to create and test a new food additive with the possible profit being in the billions of dollars such as in the case of synthetic sweeteners etc.
Sometimes the company creating the new additive etc.   pays another company (which is eager to do repeat business with the first company in the future) to do the "independent" research on the new additive etc.
The authorities then decide on the basis of this "completely neutral, independent and honest" material whether or not to approve the new substance   or not.
This method is totally unreliable.
No government conducts its own testing for food additives,  processing aids, synthetic  flavors  or natural  flavors, pesticides , cosmetic or personal care product  ingredients  themselves before approving these substances.

5. Question:  What should be done?

Obvious Changes in Food Policy
1. All food additives, processing aids, synthetic flavors and natural flavors which have an E number must be listed by their E number or by name if they do not have an E number.

2. All bakery products, take-away foods, and foods in vending machines etc., and all alcoholic beverages must have all their ingredients listed according to rule nr1.

3. All food and beverages, including all alcoholic beverages, which contain any possible combination of food additives, processing aids,, synthetic flavors , natural flavors  (and also all of the ingredients that are found together in any cosmetic or personal care product), must be tested before being put on the market.

4. All testing must be performed only by state institutions, to be paid for by the company producing that product.

5. Retest all currently permitted food additives, processing aids, synthetic flavors, natural flavors, pesticides and cosmetic and personal care product ingredients in governmental laboratories at the expense of the companies that produce them and that use them.

6. If any food additive, processing aid, synthetic flavor, natural flavor, pesticide or cosmetic and personal care product ingredient is forbidden in Sweden and the EU, Norway and Switzerland, then the manufacture and export of that same substance must also be forbidden.

6. Many become sick so that a few can become wealthy

As far back as 1986, it was estimated that the average person in Western Europe ate more than 5 kg of food additives a year. Now it is of course much more, since the average person eats much more of processed food that contains food additives.
Keep in mind that hardly any food additives are necessary.
In 1900, about 50 food additives were used in Europe.
Now the figure is up over 20,300.
At least 85% of all food additives are  "cosmetic".
This means that producers are using these food additives to make food more appealing by changing its smell, taste, color and texture.
Preservatives make up less than 15% of all food additives.
Safe preservation can be done by chilling, drying, freezing, heating, lactic acid pickling salting, sweetening, and by using spices, vinegar and vitamin C etc.
It is not difficult to replace food additives, processing aids, and synthetic flavors and natural flavors with safe naturally occurring substances and foods and safe methods of preparation.
Unsafe
Food additives exist solely to increase the food industry`s profit margins, and not for the health of the consumer.
Remember, many food additives (which includes processing aids, synthetic flavors and natural flavors) as well as pesticides and cosmetic and personal care ingredients, can be considered extremely dangerous and can be banned in one country, and yet are considered safe and acceptable in another.
Would you risk your own health and your children's health?
Children are affected much more than adults due to their immature immune system (a child`s immune system is not fully developed before 6 years of age) and their low body weight.
A child`s low body weight results that they are exposed to much more of a certain amount of a food additive than an adult in proportion to their body weight.
Children also experience rapid cell division because they are growing.
All these three reasons make children much more likely to get cancer from a dangerous food additive than an adult.
Note: Please see the possible list of severe reactions to food additives etc. in the section: “Examples of Severe Allergic Reactions”
Many children and adults have suffered through years of heavy medication due their uncontrolled and often violent behavior, which is many cases, has been caused by their severe reactions to food additives, processing aids, synthetic flavors, natural flavors and certain foods that they have been found to be allergic and / or intolerant to.
Many children and adults have become healthy once these substances have been excluded from their diet.
It is very important that both a blood test and a skin prick test be used when testing for food allergies and food intolerances.
Both tests are needed.

7. The “List of Lies” (that the food industry wants us to believe.)

"Everything causes cancer “
"For decades, the chemical industry did not test their products in a reliable manner.
When this reliable testing began, they began with the substances most suspected of causing cancer.
Many of them did of course, caused cancer, and a myth arose that everything caused cancer. "
Dr. Sydney M. Wolfe
Research director for Ralph Nader's Health Research Group in Washington DC.
"Anything taken in a  large enough  dose causes cancer"
"Spokesmen for the food industry often claim that experiments in which only high doses of chemicals have caused cancer are not valid, because huge amounts of any chemical cause cancer.
In fact, this argument is totally untrue
Researchers have shown that extremely high doses of many chemicals do not cause cancer. "
Dr. Michael F. Jacobson
Managing Director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), Washington DC.
"Anything taken in a  large enough  dose causes cancer"
"Testing with high dosages does give valid results that a substance is carcinogenic (cancer-causing.)
There is absolutely no basis for the erroneous, but often used claim that all the chemicals could cause cancer or induce mutations at high doses.
It is simply not true. "
Dr. Samuel S. Epstein MD, Professor of Environmental Health and Human Ecology
School of Medicine, Department of Pharmacology, Case Western Reserve University. (See also his excellent website www.preventcancer.org >>>).
Anything taken in a  large enough  dose causes cancer"
"Cancer is not an effect that occurs at high dosages but not at low dosages.
If the cancer is caused in laboratory animals by large doses of a chemical, we must assume that even small amounts can cause cancer."
In 1979, all governmental agencies that regulate cancer-causing chemicals in the United States government agreed on this key principle as did the International Agency for Research on Cancer (an international cancer research organization) that is linked to the World Health Organization in the UN.
Anything taken in a large enough dose causes cancer"
"We have no evidence whatsoever that there would be any safe dosage of a carcinogen.
The tissue exposed to carcinogens take on a new sensitivity.
The tissues store the damage so to speak.
If the cells are then further exposed to the influence of any carcinogenic substance, although it is only weakly carcinogenic, the damage could be extended, so as to attain a level at which a tumor develops.
All this gives rise to a situation where we cannot assume that a low intake of carcinogens would be meaningless. "
Dr. Umberto Saffiotti M.D.
Scientific Director for Carcinogenesis, National Cancer Institute, USA.

8.Warning:  “ Xylitol can be dangerous to your rat's health”

Chewing gum manufacturers questioned a study that showed that rats got cancer from xylitol E 967, but only at an intake for a human being that  would be equivalent to 20 000 pieces of gum a year, about  70 pieces a day.
But as we have seen in the above paragraphs, if a food additive causes cancer at a high dose, it can also   cause cancer at a low dosage.
High doses are needed because of the low number of animals tested; usually fewer than 100, yet hundreds of millions of people could consume that food additive.
These hundreds of millions of people differ widely in their susceptibility to cancer depending on :( This is not a complete list)
- their own individual immunity levels
- their own genetic disposition to cancer
- how old they are
- if they smoke
- if they drink alcohol
- if they are overweight
- how many other cancer-causing agents that they are also exposed to
Hundreds of millions of people worldwide chew sugarless gum containing xylitol E967 –which is always absorbed sublingually (from under the tongue) and which leaches from the gum into our saliva which we swallow when we chew gum.
E967 Xylitol is permitted in Sweden and the EU, Norway and Switzerland.
It has been proven that xylitol causes cancer.
The United States Food Administration (FDA) acknowledges that xylitol is a carcinogen.
It is found in virtually all sugar-free chewing gum and many sugar-free foods.
Xylitol is recommended by the Swedish Dental Association.
You can get cancer, but you will at least die with a dazzling white smile.
Hundreds of millions of people worldwide drink   “diet sugarless colas and soda" containing:
- Aspartame (NutraSweet) E951
- Acesulfame K E950
- Cyclamates E952
- Saccharin E954
- Sucralose E955
All of these dangerous food additives have been proven to cause cancer and other diseases.
Hundreds of millions of people worldwide use them everyday as a sugarless sweetener in their coffee or tea:
Amino Sweet=E951 Aspartame
 Canderel = E951 Aspartame
Equal=E951 Aspartame
Hermesetas = E 954 Saccharin
Neotame= E951 Aspartame
NutraSweet=E951 Aspartame
Nutra Taste= E951 Aspartame
Splenda=E955 Sucralose
Spoonfull= E951 Aspartame
Sugar Twinn =E954 Saccharin
Suketter = E 952 Cyclamates and E 954 Saccharin
Sunnet-E950 Acesulfame K
Sweet and Low=E954 Saccharin
Sweet one=E950 Acesulfame K
In the same way hundreds of millions of people worldwide brush their teeth everyday with toothpaste containing Sodium saccharin which has the same effect as E 954, Saccharin.
You and your child absorb E954 from under the tongue (sublingually) every time you brush your teeth - every day- for years.
Sodium saccharin is found in all normal toothpastes and even in some toothpastes that are  sold in health food stores.

The proven cancer causing food additives E249-E252 are found in all non-organic  cold cuts, bacon, sausages, liver sausage, liver paté, salami, ham, smoked meat, smoked fish and in  all hard cheeses except blue, green and white moldy cheeses, mozzarella and organic cheeses.
Even some organic certifications such as the EU Organic Certification allow these extremely dangerous food additives to be allowed in organic foods.
Other organic certifications such as the Swedish organic certification KRAV do not allow E249-E252 in their organic food products.
Always read all of  the ingredients in all food products  even if they are organic.
E249-E252 Nitrites and Nitrates, combine with amines that are found naturally in everyone’s stomach and form nitrosamines which are very powerful cancer causing agents.
OBS. E249-E252 should never be eaten by pregnant women, because they have been proven to cause brain tumors in unborn babies.
Read more about this very important information in the excellent website www.preventcancer.org by Dr. Samuel Epstein M.D
Pregnant women should also avoid drinking raw milk or eating products made from raw milk do to the danger of Listeria.
E249-E252 are not needed to be used in meat and cheese products.
The meat industry states that they must be used to kill botulism which is a dangerous bacterium.
This is not true, as they well know, as hygienic preparation and proper temperature preparation and storage will have the same effect.
It is simply much cheaper to use these dangerous additives than to ensure proper hygienic preparation and proper temperatures.
This is why millions of people in Europe safely eat organic meat products that do not contain these dangerous food additives and do not suffer from botulism.
Orthodox Jews are not allowed to add these dangerous food additives to their meat products and do not suffer from botulism.
Norway even forbid the use of them in the 1970´s but allowed them again under heavy pressure from the meat industry.
E251-E252 are only used in cheese to kill bacteria instead of making the cheese in a more hygienic way.
Once again millions of Europeans eat organic additive-free cheese products and suffer no negative health effects.

9. "What originally began as a proposal, but  soon became a deeply ingrained belief, was the idea that by some  magical mathematical formula or factor or  illusion trick was that the values for animals could be directly translated to the values for safe levels for humans.

We recommend that this idea must now formally, entirely and abandoned. "
Dr. L. Goldberg M.D.
Institute of Experimental Pathology and Toxicology, the Albany Medical College of Union University
"We may never know for sure whether additives are safe or not. Long-term use of chemicals can never be treated as safe.
We have many cases of common diseases such as mental decline and cancer that we cannot find the cause or effect to."
Dr. Marvin Legator, former Director of Biochemistry of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
There is no "Golden Rule" that if it is safe for animals, then it is safe for humans.
Please pay attention to these facts  about the testing method used to determine if food additives, processing aids, synthetic flavors, natural flavors,  pesticides and cosmetic and personal care product  ingredients  are dangerous or not:
1. Cancer can often take more than two years to develop in animals after exposure.
In the artificial environment of a laboratory 70-90% of laboratory animals would be dead after two years and only a few would be left for evaluation.
Therefore, even when long-term testing is done- two years or longer- which is done very rarely, the results cannot be regarded as valid.
2. Usually only one generation of animals are used, so the tested substance is not valid for data on birth defects.
3. If a tested substance causing a mutation, it becomes apparent only in the next generation, and often not at birth.
4. Animals used in the experiments are carefully selected and bred over many generations, and are totally unlike people who have an extremely wide range of differences.
5. These animals are always well looked after in a very clean stress free environments and are always fed a very nutritious diet which is absolutely unlike the majority of people who   often eat a non-nutritious diet, smoke, are overweight, suffer from high stress levels and may live in a city with polluted air etc.
6 .Sick animals are never used in the experiments, yet the test substance is consumed or used by people who are sick.
7. Test results depend not only on what kind of animal is used but also on what breed of the animal is used and on which sex of animal is used.
8. Test results also depend on how an animal is tested: by injection, skin painting, gavage (a tube into the stomach), ingestion or inhalation.
9. Non-visible effects such as those dealing with the senses, and intelligence are not tested for in the animals.
10. Among people there is an incredibly wide range of sensitivity depending on the individual which cannot be seen in carefully selected bred animals.
11 .Thalidomide was tested on five different kinds of animals - including primates which have 98% the same DNA as humans- in multi-generation tests.
It caused no side effects and was declared as safe.
Yet, when it was taken by pregnant women, it caused birth defects in thousands of babies.
Women are believed to be 60 times more sensitive to thalidomide than mice, 100 times more sensitive than rats, 200 times more sensitive than dogs and 700 times more sensitive than guinea pigs.
Once again:
There is no "Golden Rule" that if it is safe for animals, then it is safe for humans.

4. The United States and Canada have banned at least 23 of the food additives permitted in Sweden and the EU, Switzerland and Norway:
E104, E122, E123, E124, E128, E131, E142, E151, E153, E154, E155, E 952, Calamus ( a natural flavor), Calamus oil  a (natural flavor), Calamus extract ( a natural flavor), Chloroform ( an artificial flavor), Cinnamyl anthranilate ( an artificial flavor), Courmarin ( a natural flavor), Safrole ( a natural flavor), Diethyl Pyrocarbonate, Dulcin, Hydrogyaralarthic acid, NDGA,Thiourea.

5. To be fair, Sweden and the EU, Switzerland, and Norway have banned at least five substances that are allowed in the United States:

-rBST recombinant bovine somatotropin –is an artificial hormone used in cows to increase milk production
 -BVO Brominated vegetable oil
- Citrus Red 2 - used to color immature oranges
-DES Diethylstilbestrol-is a synthetic growth hormone used in cattle
- Potassium bromate -used in flour

6. Even organizations that certify food as being organic cannot agree on what food additives are safe or not!

Food additives which IFOAM ( The International Federation of Organic Agriculture) allows but are not allowed by the official EU organic certifying agency and are not allowed by KRAV-the Swedish organic certifying agency:
E 332 Potassium citrate
E 342 Ammonium phosphate
E 413 Tragacanth gum
E 508 Potassium chloride
E 511 Magnesium chloride (KRAV and EU- organic allows as a processing aid)
E 517 Ammonium sulphate
E 526 Calcium hydroxide
Food additives which IFOAM and the EU-organic allow, but not KRAV:
E 224 Potassium disulfate
E 414 Acacia gum
E 516 Calcium sulphate (KRAV allows as a processing aid)
E 524 Sodium hydroxide (KRAV allows as a processing aid)
Food additives that the EU-organic allows, but not allowed by KRAV and   IFOAM
E 153 Vegetable carbon
E 160b Annatto, bixin, norbixin
E 250 Sodium nitrite
E 252 Potassium nitrate
E 301 Sodium ascorbate
E 325 Sodium Lactate
E 422 Glycerol
E 464 Hydroxypropylmethycellulose
E 551 Silica (IFOAM permit as a processing aid)
E 553b Talk (IFOAM and KRAV permit as processing aids)
E 939 Helium
Note: This exact same dangerous mess and total confusion as to what is safe or not applies to processing aids, synthetic flavors, natural flavors, pesticides and cosmetic and personal care product ingredients
All of these  are often banned in one country and  are allowed in another.

11. Approx. 80% of all the ingredients used in personal care products (which include cosmetic ingredients) are absorbed by the body and even those which remains on the skin can cause serious side effects.
The remaining 20% can cause health disorders ranging from rashes, eczema and psoriasis to skin cancer.
The skin is not a barrier to dangerous chemicals!
Be every bit as careful when buying personal care products as you are when buying food.
Always look up each ingredient listed under the INC (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) declaration listed on the label of each product, on the excellent sites: www.preventcancer.com>>> and www.ewg.org/ skindeep/>>>
Both sites also contain lists of dangerous ingredients to watch out for that are commonly found in both normal and   “natural” and organic personal care products.
The INC ingredient list shows all ingredients by their Latin names and/or specific name (instead of just “coconut oil extract” for example) so that it can be looked up.
If a personal care product shows no “INC” list do not buy it as you have no idea what it contains. In the skindeep site the subjective number given to a substance -which is often low-is not nearly as important as the objective test results shown.

The book “Toxic Beauty” by Dr. Samuel Epstein M.D. and Randall Fitzgerald is absolutely the best book that I have ever read on this extremely important subject and I recommend it highly!
As ingredients often change, look at the ingredient each time you purchase a product and look up any new ingredients on the above two recommended sites.

12. Now for some good news:

In 2008 for the EU banned the following food additives because they were “ found” to be dangerous to your health:
- E128 Red 2G;
- E216 Propyl-p-hydroxybenzoate
- E217 Sodium propyl-4-hydroxybenzoate
And now for some bad news:
You and your children have been eating them for many years.
Six new "safe" food additives were also added to the list in 2008.
Five new “safe” food additives were added in 2010.
This absurd and dangerous behavior occurs almost  every year with not only the  food additives that have E-numbers but also  with processing aids, synthetic flavors, natural flavors, pesticides and cosmetic and personal care product ingredients due to the simple fact of either inadequate testing and / or corrupt testing with you and me and our children serving as human  guinea pigs.

13. Do you take vitamins?

The law requires that vitamin companies only list on the label only the ingredients that they themselves have added to their tablet / capsule, liquid, or powder etc. vitamin supplement.
So if the vitamin company buys:
(Note: This is not a complete list.)
- Vitamin A containing E210, E211, E212, E213, E320 or E321
- Various B-vitamins containing E202, E203, E210, E211, E212
- Vitamin C containing E200
- Vitamin D containing E210, E211, E212, E213, E320, E321
from a vitamin producing company and puts these vitamins and the E numbers they contain in a tablet, capsule or liquid they legally do not have to list the E-numbers on the label-and never do.
There are thousands of vitamin companies that make their own vitamin supplement and sell them, but there are fewer than 10 companies worldwide that actually produce vitamins.
All the capsule ingredients do not have to be legally listed on the label.
Gelatin capsules may contain E200, E320, E321 and do contain hexane unless they state “hexane free capsules” on the label.
Virtually all cellulose capsules contain E420 Sorbitol and some contain E407 Carrageenan and E468 Croscarmellose as well.
(Gelatin capsules and cellulose capsules can always be twisted open if they consist of 2 pieces with the contents being poured in juice etc., otherwise they can be cut open with the contents being squeezed out.)
Read also the last section of E620 on the dangers of asparate minerals in the aspartate form, and  minerals in the citrate form - if the citrates have been made with citric acid that is made from corn.
Minerals that simply state:
- chelated
- amino-acid chelated
- chelated with a hydrolyzed protein
- or protein chelated, means that they are all  chelated to soya protein.
See the excellent site: www. truthinlabelling.org and E620 in the E- number guide.
 - Ask the vitamin company whose name is on the label if there are any additives whatsoever in their vitamins and capsules.
- Ask them also if their   Vitamin B2 , B12, and  C  are made from genetically engineered GMO corn or not  ( all Vitamin B2,B12,and Vitamin C is made from corn) and if their natural Vitamin E  is made from  GMO soya beans or not ( all natural  Vitamin E is made from soya beans.)
- And most importantly ask them to send you a letter with the answers.
A letter is a legal document which a telephone conversation or an e-mail is not.
You can also ask your local dairy if there are any food additives and / or preservatives in the A and D vitamins that they legally must add to low fat milk.
Baby foods are also often fortified with vitamins.
Ask these companies also to reply to you in a letter if there are any additives in the vitamins.

14. The Two Golden Rules

Always remember:
1. All food additives, processing aids, synthetic flavors, and natural flavors are never tested together, but are almost always found together in some combination in the same food.
We have absolutely no knowledge of their combined effects.
The same is also true for the combinations of the ingredients used in personal care products (including cosmetics.)
The same is also true for the combined use of different pesticides (which includes herbicides and fungicides etc.) on the same food.
2. The is no "Golden Rule" that if it is safe for animals, then it is safe for humans.
Note 1
: If people tell you that: “If food additives, processing aids  synthetic flavors, natural flavors, pesticides, and cosmetic and  personal care product ingredients would be  dangerous, they  would be banned ” remember   the tobacco rule.
Tobacco has been proven beyond doubt to cause cancer, heart disease, pulmonary emphysema and a whole host of fatal diseases etc., but it is still allowed.
Just because something is allowed is absolutely no guarantee for that it is safe.
Note 2: Start reading the ingredient list of all foods including  organic foods.
Unfortunately as we have seen, even processed organic foods can contain dangerous food additives.

15. Do not get depressed and just give up!

That is exactly what the food industry wants you to do.
Just try to avoid all food additives and all flavors as much as possible.
Try to buy raw organic food containing no food additives and no flavors and prepare the food yourself

16. Introduction to the E-number list
1.  Sweden and the EU, Switzerland and Norway limit the use of some food additives to only certain foods.
This creates a false sense of security because:
a) Many people may eat and drink a lot of that particular food in which it is allowed.
b) A food additive that causes cancer in large quantities will also cause cancer in small quantities.
c) As long as a food additive is not totally forbidden, but is just limited in use to a certain extent, there is always the possibility of it being allowed to be used in more and more food.
d) It is not logical to claim that a food additive is not dangerous, and then limits its use!

2. This list should not be interpreted that the additives that have no side- effects listed are completely safe.
It just means that I have not found any negative reports.

3. Since food additives can be legally written by name without their E-number on the ingredient list (in order to hide them and make them look like ingredients), if you suspect that an ingredient is a food additive – google the name to see if it is a food additive that can be looked up.
