2. Nature and aims
2.1 Nature
The IADS, founded in 1951, is a non-political, independent, non-profit
making, student run association which unifies the dental students of the
world.
2.2 Aims
- to promote international contact and cooperation between dental students
and dental students' organisations throughout the world
- to establish and encourage international programmes which will stimulate
the interest of dental students in the advancement of the science and art
fo dentistry

IADS is part of a consortium created by and including the World Health
Oganisation (WHO). The goal of thsi consortium is to promote the World
Day of Oral Health (7th April 1994) and to give funds to the member
association having interesting projects for this WHO's action. This
way, the Association is official supporter of this day. The Association
also works with the WHO to organize the voluntary work abroad programme.
The Association is affilite member of th World Dental Federation (FDI -
Fédération Dentaire Internationale). So that the headoffice
is in the FDI's headquarters, and the FDI/IADS coordinator (employed by
the FDI) takes care of the mail of the Association.
IADS has an exchange of information with the EDS (European Community
Dental Students' Committee) and mail contacts with IFMSA and IPSF.
