When I decided to learn LPC and the DGD driver what really got me started was Noah Gibbs site about learning DGD. Theres some great stuff there and I really recommend it to those who want to start coding ontop of the Kernel MUDLib. Thats what I did. I recommend that you read everything on that page and especially the Getting started with the Kernel MUDLib helped me. When you are done with that, add an error daemon and continue from there. Remember that you dont really have to understand everything at once. I know thats the thoughest part because you really do want to understand everything before you continue. Its the same for me. Now if you are trying to learn LPC like I am, a great way is to play around in your home directory. Im going to add something about that tomorrow but for now remember the code command and check out the kfun documentation in docs/. Especially the call_other kfun is a great way to get started.

Im not really sure I will ever succeed in getting a mud up and running. I have had plans to start coding on one for a very long time though. First I thought about coding it in C while I was learning that. I thought it might be a good thing, what better way of getting some real coding experience than coding on a mud? It never got that far though. Then I started to code a little Java and I thought the same thing. Again I never really got started on it. Im one of those who want to tell a story, not just get a mud up and running. I dont have any commercial purpose either, it's the story that drives me. And the creativity in coding of course. Most of the muds that I have played and stayed on for a longer time was/is LPMuds. I can actually only remember one that I played for quite some time that was made from a custom C codebase. Thats how I got too choose the DGD driver for building my mud. That and the Skotos articles that inspired me to start working on a mud again. I dont know how far this road will take me, but I hope this journal will help me on my way.

So this journal is up and running. Actually the idea of this jounal got into my head yesterday, and I put it up today.
Anyway what this site/journal/weblog is all about you can read on the about page. I'll start adding entries and other stuff very soon.
