The case

The case measures width 85cm (33½ inches) deep 45cm (17¾ inches) and height 65cm (25½ inches). The frame is 25mm (1 inch) aluminum profiles with 4mm glass. The bottom is made of 12mm (½ inch) wooden plate and 6mm (¼ inch) glass. Everything is glued with silicon, witch give 5cm (2 inches) of waterproof in the bottom. The front has two doors hanged on what we in Sweden call gångjärn. (I have no idea about the English word.) I choose that instead of sliding doors to made rte case easier to access and photograph.

This is how the case looks. Inside it's about fifty more orchids now than when the occasion for the picture.

 Light

There are four fluorescents in the case by Arcadia. They are "mist proof" and the reactors can be mounted away from the case to get the heat away. I use two Gro-Lux 25w and two Aquastar 25w 10 000 K. When it gets to hot in summer, I turn of two of the  fluorescents.

Watering

I have a Gardena misting system in the case. Now after moving the nozzels around and some eeriments it works pretty well. For most time of year the plants get a daily mist in the morning.

I use RO water and 1/4 of fertilizer with every watering.

Ventilation

The case is not airtight, there is a 10mm slits under the door. Inside the air circulates by two small 12v CPU fans.

Humidety

The bottom of the case is filled with aquarium gravel and some living Spaghnum and the water from the misting system does that it's always some water in the bottom. The humidity is between 65-92% with seem to be good with most plants except my miniature Phalaenopsis that know has moved out.

Temperature

The temprature varies from 14-16° C winter nights to 30-33° C summerdays. That seem to be ok with most of the plants but two of my Masdevallias has suffered this summer. Maybe  I should have glass between the case and the light to get temp down a bit.
