Forget Leno, O'Brian and all the other shows. This is truly the real thing! Even if he isn't the first talk show host, he is the best one. Anyway it's a great talk show with all the guests you want to see.

David Letterman himself is a fabulous show person. He is often able to capture the audience even without a guest, something other talk show host aren't so successful in at even if they try very hard. He also seems very relaxed during the "chats" with his guests. Mostly he talks to them just like one would talk to ones close friends.

David Letterman has a lot of gimmicks. Three of them are included regularly. The Ten Top list is the most regular one. Sometime during every show he read the list. It's a list with the most odd subjects. Another gimmick is his visits outside the theater. Once every now and then he runs out of the theater and does some odd thing in New York. The show is filmed in the Ed Sullivan theater.
