Rotary Combustion Engine (Wankel), was first used by Citroën in the M35, a 1969 prototype vehicle. The M35 was based on a Citroën AMI converted to a 2+2 coupé, with a single rotor RCE and hydraulic suspension. This prototype has the exterior partly common with the AMI:s, but the similarities are fewer than the differences. This vehicle could serve as a test bench for the Wankel engine, but was far from being commercialized.
