Home | Quick start | Build a hive! | Tip! | Interesting!

North-west of Stockholm lies a park called Hagaparken, a little green pearl in the sea of urban settlement. It's a nice old english park, created in the late 18:th century by Piper. King Gustav the III was in need of a place to relax, so he simply ordered the park!
Well enough of history. What I wanted to write about is my, Carl Moller's bees. I have nine hives in Hagaparken and they work pretty hard.
I have not had had any problems with diseases yet. Warroa has not hit this area of Sweden, but it will eventually.
When working with bees I feel good and it's always exciting. There is always something going on and I experience new things often. But it's also a lot of hard work and it helps if you can do most of the equipment needed yourself.

If you are a beginner with bees and want to learn how to work with them, I have put together a short, step by step introduction, how to get started quick.
When I started I knew almost nothing about bees and how to handle them. I simply bought one swarm and a couple of second-hand hives. I then started reading madly about how to manage the bees. It was a little frustrating in the beginning when I didn't have more than the book to refer to.
As the summer went on I bought another swarm, divided the two hives into three new ones and bought three new queens. At the end of the summer of 96 I thus had 5 hives. Two strong ones and three weaker ones. They all survived the winter.
