Brian Little
1953:
Born in Horden on November 25.
1971:
Joins Aston Villa in March. Makes League
debut for
Villa, the first of 247 appearances
(5 as sub) which brought
60 goals.
1975:
Wins League Cup winners' medal as Villa
beat Norwich 1-0
at Wembley. Awarded first, and only,
England cap after a substitute
appearance against Wales.
1977:
Wins another League Cup winners' medal,
scoring two goals,
as Villa beat Everton 3-2 in an Old
Trafford replay played
after two draws.
1979:
Forced to retire from playing by a
serious knee injury.
1986:
After spells on the coaching staffs
of Villa, Middlesbrough and Wolves,
is appointed caretaker-manager at Molineux.
Despite just one defeat in eight games,
he leaves the club when
Graham Turner is brought in.
1989:
Appointed manager of Darlington, who
had just been relegated
from the Football League to the Vauxhall
Conference.
1990:
Plots Darlington's path to the Vauxhall
Conference title and an
instant return to the Football League.
1991:
More success as Darlington win the
fourth division title.
Quits Feethams to join Leicester as
manager.
1994:
Guides Leicester into the Premiership
with a 2-1 win over Derby.
Controversially quits Filbert Street
and days later is appointed
manager of Aston Villa.
1996:
Villa lift Coca-Cola Cup with 3-0 win
over Leeds at Wembley,
reach semi-finals of FA Cup and finish
third in Premiership.
1998:
Resign as manager for Aston Villa.
Takes up the manager job at Stoke City.
