Band Biography

In 1974 Ulf Christiansson got saved one year later he started the band Jerusalem together with Dan Tibell on keyboards, Danne Gansmoe on drums and Bertil Sörensson on bass. Jerusalem was one of the first christian Hard Rock bands in Sweden. About a year after their start they signed a record contract with the Swedish Christian record company PRIM, and in 1978 they released their first selftitled album. Jerusalem received good reviews for their first album and became fast the most popular band among the christian youth people in Sweden. Everywhere they played they played for fullcrowded houses. In 1979 it was time for the second Jerusalem album this time with Klas Anderhell behind the drumset and Anders Mossberg was the bass player. The album was called "Vol 2" and it was a little bit heavier than their first release. Jerusalem grew fast in popularity all over the world and this time they had better distribution in America and the rest of Europe. Before recording "Warrior" in 1981 bass player Anders Mossberg left the band and got replaced by Peter Carlsohn. With "Warrior" Jerusalem took a big step towards a more hardrock oriented style. In 1983 Jerusalem made a big change of style both musically and lyrically with their release of "Can't Stop Us Now". With influences from U2 and not as straight forward lyrics as they use to have. This time Michael Ulfsgärd was the drummer since Klas Anderhell had left the band. This year Ulf Christiansson also released his first solo album "In My Dreams". In 1985 Jerusalem went over to America for a tour, this resulted in the live album "In His Majesty's Service/Live In USA". After the tour Dan Tibell left the band and got replaced by Reidar I Paulsen. In 1987 Jerusalem released "Dancing On The Head Of The Serpent". Later this year Jerusalem decided to take a break for a while and three of the four members went on to bible school. Under this period Ulf had time to release two new solo albums; "Lifestyle From Above" 1991 and "Spring Inte Bort Från Sanningen" 1992. At the turn of the year 1992/93 Jerusalem decided it was time for a reunion and in November 1993 they went in to Studio Kuling in Örebro and recorded the comeback album "Prophet" which was released in march 1994. In 1994 and 1995 Jerusalem was touring frequently. In 1994 they made a big european tour together with Petra and in 1995 Jerusalem played at the Cornerstone festival in america. In october 1995 Jerusalem celebrated their 20 years anniversary at the Gospel Globe festival in Stockholm. In 1996 Ulf Christiansson heard a botleg tape with old Jerusalem songs that never before had been on any Jerusalem album and decided it was time to record a new album with the old songs and the old line-up from the "Volume 2" days. In the summer 1996 Jerusalem went in to the studio and started to record "Volym 3". They had 40 unreleased songs written between 1975 and 1983 and chosed to record about 20 of them. In December 1996 "Volym 3" was released which was a big success for the band. In the spring 1997 Jerusalem went out on a big Scandinavian tour which started in their home town Gothenburg at 9th of April. During this tour Jerusalem recorded some live shows which will end up with a new live dubble CD which will be released in the summer 1998. In the Summer 1997 Jerusalem released the english verisionof Volym 3 and played several live dates, for example they played for a big crowd at the Seaside Festival in Norway. They also played at the Flevo Festival in Holland. Early in december "Volym 4" was realeased which feature more unreleased stuff in new recorded verisions.
