Do you think that I'm crazy, out of my mind?
Do you think that my pants are too tight, do you think that I'm creepy?

Frank Vincent Zappa
1942-1993
This page is dedicated to the musical genius that was and is Frank Zappa.
I first got into Zappa when I bought the album "Sheik Yerbouti" in 1993, just a few days before Frank died from cancer. Since then, I've been trying to get into all of his music - not an easy task, considering that Frank has released over 60 albums, and that not two of them sound alike...
People have asked me why I bother listening to Zappa, when there is music like MMM-Bop and Mariah Carey, which is so much more accessible. If anyone has heard of Frank Zappa, they have only heard "Bobby Brown" and never listened to the lyrics.
"Got a cheerleader here, wants to help with my paper
Let her do all the work and maybe later I'll rape her"
Well, I mainly like Zappa because of his extreme unpredictability and his sense for weird melodies. Zappa wrote songs in time signatures that no one has ever heard of, with lyrics that range from razor-sharp social comments to wonderfully dumb obscenities. He did heavy metal, he did "serious" music, and he did everything in between. His albums were called things like "We're Only in it for the Money", "Playground Psychotics" and "The Best Band You Never Heard in Your Life", and he wrote songs that were called "Help, I'm a Rock!", "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow" and "Jesus Thinks You're a Jerk". He fronted one of the most provocative bands in rock history, The Mothers (of Invention). He named his children Dweezil ("It could've been worse - I could have called him Ralph"), Moon Unit and Ahmet. He was one of the coolest persons in rock history, and we miss him very much.
