Ok, the reason this looks a bit weird is that I'm not very good with computers, and just wanted to get the script up on the website. Also, this is only a FIRST DRAFT, a lot of changes have been made and will be made. For example the style and story will be more complex and less coherent, and Enid's character will be more expressive. Contact me at j.sun@spray.se or 544-69 43 if you'd like to help out.

5. BLACK SCREEN.

White text reading: ENID, Friday morning, 2 pm.

7. INT. HALLWAY. DAY.

ENID comes in through the front door of a house. She looks tired as she takes her coat off, shakes the snow of her shoes and takes off a sweater. She throws a black portfolio, titled: ”The inner life of Martin Frost – after the book by Hector Mann - Gray’s Elementary School”, on a chair. Then she takes her freestyle off and the music stops playing.

8. INT. KITCHEN. DAY.

ENID is sitting on a chair, in a warm sweater, in a clean, big, kitchen. She’s staring out at the falling snowflakes outside, zipping on a cup of coffee. The colours and air in the kitchen is as cold and blue as the winter outside. She holds herself as if she’s cold, and then rises, and walks over to the radiator. It is on. She looks disappointed.

9. INT. BEDROOM. DAY.

ENID is sitting on the bed, reading a book, with a notebook and a pen beside her. On the bedside table is a picture of ENID and a red-haired girl, smiling. ENID suddenly throws the book she’s reading on the floor carelessly, and starts looking at the picture of her and the girl on the bedside table. Then she looks out through the window at the clear blue air.

10. EXT. AIRPORT. DAY.

Same shot as before of plane taking off.

11. INT. LIVING ROOM. NIGHT.

ENID is sitting in the living room armchair, with a blanket covering her, zapping between the channels on TV.

Enid (V.O.)

(All V.O.’s are Enid’s)

My boyfriend went to New York without me. He suddenly decided to leave with his friends on Thursday – and I teach drama for kids on Friday mornings… ...He’ll be back on Monday morning…

ENID gets out of the armchair, we now see that she has a t-shirt on that reads “Dine”, goes to the kitchen and gets a spoon and a big pack of ice-cream from the freezer. She then returns to the armchair.

V.O.

We had decided to do this trip together. It was my suggestion.

As another commercial comes on, she starts zapping, angrily, between channels again.

V.O.

Public transport here is so bad it would take me a whole day to go there on my own. And I don’t have a driver’s license…

(ENID is half-asleep in the armchair, the shows on TV have stopped running, and the ice-cream pack is empty.)

V.O.

…There was no need to leave so early…

12. EXT. ROOF OF HOUSE. NIGHT.

ENID is lying in the snow, on the roof of her house, in her coat. She’s making a snow angel. The stars are shining brightly in the sky. It’s a cold evening.

V.O.

Before I used to think of our relationship as a plane taking off.

13. EXT. PARK. DAY.

ENID and one of the guys from the car, PAUL - a middle-height, handsome boy, with brown, messy, hair and blue eyes - are having a picnic outside in the sunshine. They are teasing each other, wrestling, kissing and laughing.

14. EXT & INT. MONTAGE. DAY & NIGHT.

“TWISTERELLA” by Ride is playing to shots of ENID and PAUL having dinner together on an outside patio restaurant, holding each other close at night, going to the movies, walking in parks, splashing each other with water in the sea. The colours of these days are bright and warm, like the sun shining.

V.O.

PAUL just came into my life one day, and took it over. He was on a two-week business trip with his job, but he ended up staying for four months, without a job. After that he asked me if I wanted to move with him to Canada. I did.

15. INT. LIVING ROOM & HALLWAY. DAY.

PAUL and ENID are moving into a furnished house. The sun is shining outside. They don’t have too much stuff. They keep hugging and laughing at the 70’s furniture in the house.

V.O.

We found this great, cheap house that used to belong to an old grandmother. And our plane kept flying for a long time.

”TWISTERELLA” fades out.

16. EXT. ROOF OF HOUSE. NIGHT.

ENID gets up from the roof, and climbs into the house again trough a window. The snow angel stays on the roof. The stars are still shining in the sky.

17. EXT. SKY. DAY.

Shot of plane flying against a clear-blue sky.

18. EXT. AIRPORT AND FIELD. DAY.

A plane is landing smoothly on an airport. Dissolve to:

19. EXT. FIELD. DAY.

A plane is crashing on a field.

20. INT. BEDROOM. NIGHT.

ENID is lying under the sheets in her bed. She takes out some pictures from an envelope in the bedside drawer, and starts looking at them. All of them portray ENID and the red-haired girl, ANNA. ANNA seems to be talking and laughing on all of them..

V.O.

My best friend ANNA and I have known each other since we were 5 and both lived in Paris.

ENID puts the pictures down in the envelope, and the envelope on the bedside table.

V.O.

Ever since then we’ve talked about living together as grown-up’s. We were planning to move to San Francisco when PAUL suddenly came into my life…

ENID reaches over and turns off the bedside lamp.

V.O.

Anna was disappointed, but understanding. …We’ve known each other since we were 5…

21. EXT. CITY PARK. DAY.

“TAKE ME OUT” by Red House Painters is playing and keeps on playing until the end. ENID is walking through a park, with her hands in her pockets, kicking snow. We can see her breaths through puffs of air.

V.O.

…Then, somehow, what was supposed to be a safe landing became a crash. It didn’t take long before PAUL and I started getting on each other’s nerves.

22. EXT. OUTSIDE SKATE RINK. DAY.

ENID is watching as kids and their families are skating around and around in a hockey rink.

V.O.

I didn’t have any other friends here and was studying on correspondence, so when PAUL got home I was very anxious to talk…

23. EXT. STREET & HOUSE. DAY

ENID is walking on a street, with her hands in her pocket. She stops at a house and opens the door with a key.

V.O.

…But he only wanted stillness and quiet after a hard day at work.

24. INT. KITCHEN & LIVING ROOM. DAY.

ENID is heating a pizza in the microwave oven. She brings it to the living room where she eats it in front of the TV.

V.O.

I thought we could patch it up. I kept coming up with different ideas, but PAUL never took much interest.

25. INT. LIVING ROOM. NIGHT.

The TV in the living room is flickering, and ENID is sitting in its glow, looking out through the window… There are leftovers of a heated pizza on a plate on the living room table.

V.O.

He was avoiding me, and now we hardly talk to each other.

26. INT. LIVING ROOM. DAY.

PAUL is drinking a Bud while watching TV in the living room, as ENID comes out of the kitchen. They both look at each other for a second - then he resumes watching TV, and she walks towards the stairs that lead to the bedroom.

27. INT. LIVING ROOM & STAIRWAY. NIGHT

ENID is standing still in the middle of the living room. She then starts walking up the stairs from the living room to the bedroom. The TV is still on and flickering in the background.

V.O.

…and if we ever do, all we do is argue

28. INT. KITCHEN. DAY.

PAUL and ENID are arguing about something missing from the fridge. We can’t really hear what they’re saying, because of the music, but it seems petty. ENID tries to calm PAUL down, but he’s too angry. She shrugs her shoulders and leaves angry PAUL in the kitchen. He walks after her, still arguing…

29. INT. BEDROOM. NIGHT.

PAUL and ENID are lying in bed. His back is turned towards ENID, but his eyes are open; she is on her back, staring out the window.

30. EXT. HOUSE ROOF. NIGHT.

ENID is sitting in the snow, on the house roof, smoking a cigarette.

V.O.

So I’ve been thinking about leaving… ...about taking some plane somewhere.

ENID slowly puffs the cigarette smoke into the cold winter air.

31. INT. BEDROOM. NIGHT

ENID lies in her bed, staring out into the air, unable to sleep.

V.O.

But I’m afraid...

32. INT. KITCHEN. DAY.

The weather is great outside and the snow is glowing in the sunshine. The warm, yellow light, flickers through the window as ENID is on the telephone. She’s laughing as she hangs up.

V.O.

I’ve been talking on the phone to ANNA a lot lately.

33. EXT. CITY STREETS. DAY.

ENID is walking around in the sunshine, playfully kicking the snow with her feet, making the occasional snowball.

V.O.

She’s finally moving to San Fran. She’s taking a plane tomorrow. She suggested I should come along. She was joking.

34. EXT. LAKE. SUNSET.

“TAKE ME OUT” starts playing louder. ENID is standing with her hands in her pockets, looking over a great, big lake as the sun is setting. The warm light of the sun hovers over the blue lake and ENID.

V.O.

But I might.

35. EXT. MONTAGE OF ENID. NIGHT

ENID is sitting on the roof in the winter night, dreaming, with a pack of cigarettes chucked beside her. She’s lying in her bed, twisting and turning. She’s eating another ice-cream package standing up by the kitchen sink. She’s sitting in her bed, looking at pictures of ANNA and her together.

36. BLACK SCREEN.

Reading in white; ENID, Monday, 6.05 am.

37. INT. HALLWAY. DAY.

ENID is lifting two suitcases down the stairs. She’s taking one out at a time. She puts them on the outside doorstep, outside where the sun is rising – leaving a warm, bright tone over the whole scene

V.O.

I think it’s time ANNA and I make that dream of ours come true. I can’t wait to see the look on her face when she sees me as she arrives to San Francisco airport for the first time in her life! .. And if PAUL wants to see me, he’ll just have to make that 6-hour drive…

Here she lifts her bags, and leaves out into the sunshine.

V.O.

I’m going to miss the drama kids, but they’ll have to survive without me…

38. EXT. SKY. DAY.

Credits roll as an airplane is flying in a clear blue sky. “TAKE ME OUT” is still playing.
