When Alex was 11, he got a £100 piano, and when he was 16 he got himself a Fender Precision bass copy for £50, cause he couldn't afford a keyboard. His first band was called The Age of Consent.
Alex met Graham at Goldsmiths college where he was studying French. They became good friends and Graham introduced Alex to Damon and Dave, who were then in a band called Circus.
When two of the members quit Circus, Damon asked Alex to join since he knew Alex had a bass. And though Alex couldn't play very well, he joined the band, and they changed their name to Seymour.
