The Working Trials have as goal increase
the natural skills of the competing
dogs, regarding the improvement of the
functional aspects of the Breed.
Develop, awake and expand in breeders,
owners and general public, to the
Working Trials as a cultural activity,
sportive and with public utility through
informative and educational actions
during the Trials.
This Trials have the goal of giving
continuity to the work made for this
Breed during many years, in the
performance on board of the fishing
boats, as a great fisherman auxiliary. |

Organization |
|
The Working Trials are organized and
supervised for the 4th Commission - Sub
commission of Water Dogs from the
Portuguese Kennel Club (C.P.C.).
They can be organized by and Official
Entity, Breed Clubs or Clubs filiated
in the Portuguese Kennel Club, under the
authorization of the 4th Commission -
Sub commission of Water Dogs. |

Article 1st |
|
The organization of the trials is
entirely in charge of a Organizing
Commission composed by members from the
Organizing Entities. The Organizing
Commission from a trial will submit to
the approval of the 4th Commission - Sub
commission of Water Dogs, a program on
witch the following must be:

Name of the Organizing Entity, declaring
that the trials will be made in
conformity with the 4th Commission - Sub
commission of Water Dogs rules. |

Name of the members from the Organizing
Commission. |
|
3 - |
Name of a Judge and a Commissioner
officially recognized for the C.P.C. (in
case the Organizing Commission doesn't
present names, they will be designate
for the 4th Commission - Sub commission
of Water Dogs). |

Nomination of a Veterinary to assure the
admission of the dogs. |
|
5 - |
Date and place of the Trial realization. |
|
6 - |
Inscription conditions and prices. |

After the Program approval the
Organizing Commission of the Trial is
responsible for the divulgation of the
Trial, through reproductions of the
original program, on witch must be the
referred elements in the earlier aligns.
The C.P.C. only recognizes as legal the
trials that are organized in harmony
with the disposals of this Regulation,
and after approval of the 4th Commission

Article 2nd
Water Trials Types and Levels |
|
The Portuguese Water Dog Water Trials
are composed by:
|
|
1 - |
Working Water Trials - Level I. |
|
2 - |
National Working Championship Trials -
Level II. |
|
3 - |
International Working Championship
Trials - Level III. |
|
Article 3rd
Levels and Classes |
Level I
Intended to dogs in beginning of
training and only performed in Working
Water Trials.
Level II
Intended to dogs that total completed
the three trials of Level I and
qualified with Excellent. In this level
can compete dogs from foreign countries.
Level III
Intended to dogs that are National
Working Champions. In this level can
compete dogs from foreign countries,
that must also be National Working
Champions in their countries.
- All dogs that
come from foreign countries and in which
countries don't exist Water Trials, must
begin their performance in Level I.
Classes
Young - from 5 to 12 months.
Adult - from 12 months forward.
The Young Class only has one level with
three trials of appreciation (the same
as Level I to Adult Class). |

Article 4th
Inscription |
|
In the inscription bulletin duly signed
by the dog owner, must be:
|

Type of Trial and Level. |

Number of registration in L.O. ou R.I. |
|

|

By inscribing their dogs, the owners are
totally obliged, with no conditions or
reserves, to respect all the disposals
of this Regulation. |

The inscriptions declarations are
accepted as true, being however from the
owner responsibility. |
|
3 - |
The incorrect or false declarations
involve the application of sanctions. |
|
4 - |
The inscription bulletins duly filled
are delivered in the time established in
the program, as well as the fees to pay. |
|
5 - |
In the inscription act the owner
receives for each dog a counterpart with
the inscription number. |
|
6 - |
Once the inscription is accepted, the
owner can't demand, under no excuse, the
right to the reimbursement of the paid
fee, except if the Trial doesn't take
place. |
|
7 - |
To the Water Trials - Level I the points
5 and 6 aren't applied. |
|
1 - |
In the Water Trails can only be
admitted dogs from the breed Portuguese
Water Dog inscribed in Books of Origins
or Initial Registration. |
|
2 - |
It is obligatory the presentation of the
sanitary bulletin or proof of the
anti-rabies vaccination, within the
validation term, and effectuated in more
than eight days before, and also to
prove the other vaccinations against the
primary infect-contagious diseases of
the specie. |
|
3 - |
The dogs that are rejected in the
sanitary exam wont be admitted, as well
as the dogs belonging to a judge or
commissioner, that actuate in the trial,
or to a member of the Organizing
Commission. |
|
Article 6th
Judges, Commissioners and Delegate |
|
The judgments are made by Judges
recognized by the C.P.C.
The Judges, only entities qualified to
value, qualify and classify the trials
of the competitor dogs, judge under
their personal responsibility and their
decisions aren't possible to appeal,
except in case of bad interpretation of
the regulations or infraction of the
official regulations.
It is forbidden to Judges to consult
lists of former trials classifications,
before the judgments are finished.
It is forbidden to Judges classify a dog
of their own breeding, or of their own
property, when by the water trial date
haven't passed 6 months since the dog no
longer belongs to him. During the trial
realization can only be in the enclosure
the Judge, Commissioner, Delegate and
Handler of the dog in trial.
The Judges must present a report for
each dog competitor to Level II and III,
which original belongs to the C.P.C. and
copy will be delivered to the dog
handler.
The Judge can suspend temporarily or
definitively a trial in case there are
no safety conditions to its realization.
The Organizing Commission, with the
previous C.P.C. authorization or its
Delegate, can replace the announced
Judges or Commissioners that, for a
strong reason, are disabled to judge.
Commissioners competence is to maintain
discipline and made fulfill the
disposals of the Regulation, as well as
contribute to improve the Judges
mission, however without interfering in
their decisions.
When suitable the C.P.C. will nominate a
Delegate for the Championship Trials
that will: |

Inform or take note of any abusive
behavior from the handlers or owners. |
|
- |
Take note of any protest or complaint
that occurs during the trial.
These details should be mentioned in the
written report that will be delivered
after the trial end to the C.P.C.

Article 7th
Awards and Diplomas |
|
In Trials are granted and registered in
working notebook (see article 16th): |
|

All the results achieved in Trials Level
II and Level III. |
|
- |
Proposal certificates of C.A.C.T. and
R.C.A.C.T. to grant according to the
rules in Level II. |
|
- |
Proposal certificates of C.A.C.I.T. and
R.C.A.C.I.T. to grant according to the
rules in Level III. |
|
In Working Water Trials Level I can be
granted special awards according to the
pre-established conditions of the
Organizing Commissions and approved by
the 4th Commission - Sub commission of
Water Dogs |
|
The Big Awards to grant in Working Water
Trials, are usually constituted by
Trophy's, in number to define by the
Organizing Commissions and by the 4th
Commission - Sub commission of Water
Dogs, as following: |

Attachment A of this Regulation. |

Article 9th
Realization Places |
|
The Trials, preferably, must take place
in the sea, environment where the breed
use to work, or in other aquatic
environments such as lakes, rivers,
estuary or barrage, being excluded the
utilization of pools or tanks (still
waters) to the trials realization. |
Article 10th
Objects to use in Trials |
|

The objects be used in Trials must be in
conformity with the drawings and
descriptions of Attachment B of this
Regulation and, competes to the Judge
their approval before the Trial. |
|
Article 11th
Water Trials area and equipment |
|
The area of the Trial is a rectangle of
20m large for 15m long, that must be
fenced with police bars or with poles
and ribbon, having as natural
prolongation the same area in the water.
The support equipment is composed by two
tables, four chairs, two sun hats, one
pole with a red flag to mark the
start/finish line and a boat to support
and rescue during the Trial. |

Complaints |
|
All the complains that eventually can
come up during the trial, must be made
by written in place, and delivered to
the Delegate. |
Article 13th
Level I - Trial A |
|
Swimming (Speed) |
|
1 - |
The origin of this trial has the goal of
recreate one the functions of Water
Dogs, that was to deliver messages from
ship to ship, according to their orders.
The Judge values in dogs the temperament
characteristics to water and swimming,
regarding the following:
a - Behavior before water
b - Speed between buoys
c - Swimming style and rhythm
d - Obedience

This evaluation is made along a
triangular course defined by the
start/finish point and by two buoys
placed at the same distance, more or
less 15m, and separated between also for
15m. |

position on the left side of the handler
without leash. At his order he must go
into water and enter, doing the course
with his handler. |

The punctuated speed is the one between
buoys, that will be chronometrated. |
|

The dog that doesn't enter the water or
doesn't turn the first buoy will be
disqualified, although he can continue
in trial, he will be classified
behind the last dog that concludes the
first trial no mater the punctuation
obtained in the remaining trials. |

The origin of this trial is to recreate
one of the Water Dog functions on board
of the fishing boats that was to
retrieve the objects that fall outside
the boat, fishes that got out of the
hooks and save human lives. The Judge in
this trial valuates the way the dog
retrieves an object thrown into the
water, the skill of swimming with the
object in his mouth and the delivery in
hand, regarding the following:
a - Attention to the fall point of the
object
b - Way dog catches the object
c - Delivery of the object
d - Obedience |

During the object launch to water
the dog is sit without leach on the left
side of the handler. The object must be
thrown by the handler, to the middle of
the buoys and at equal distance. In case
the launching isn't correct, because its
too short distance, or outside the
buoys, the Judge should ask for another
launch. |

To retrieve the object the dog will
start at the handler's order, after he
thrown the object, and must swim
directly to the object, without hesitate
or change direction, and catch it on
first attempt. |

The dog must carry the object always on
his mouth without dropping it, and

regarding the following points:

handler. At his order they both go into
the water until the dogs starts
swimming, the handler frees the object
that must go underwater and steps away.

aquatic visibility conditions and the
undulation, that may interfere in the
object retrieve. In this cases the Judge

considerable distances and had to be
much time inside the water. The Judge
values in dogs the temperament
characteristics before water and
swimming, regarding the following:
a - Behavior before water
b - Resistance
c - Swimming style and rhythm
d - Obedience

on which the handler and the dog must go
round the placed buoys, several times,
until achieving two minutes time. |

Article 17º Working
National and International
Champions |

In each trial can be
proposed by he Judge a
Working National Champion
Certificate (C.A.C.T.), and
a reserve (R.C.A.C.T.), for
each sex, to all dogs that
compete in Level II.
It can only be attributed
one C.A.C.T or R.C.A.C.T to

The Working National
Champion title is attributed
to the dog that completes
three C.A.C.T. granted by
two different Judges, and
homologated by the 4th
Commission - Sub commission

false declarations in the
inscription bulletins or
forge the Working Notebooks,
will be subject of the
Disciplinary Council
sanctions. |

All owners or handlers that
insult Judges,
Commissioners, Delegates or
members of the Organizing
Commission are subject to
the disciplinary sanctions
applied by the C.P.C.

Article 19th Transitory
Disposals |

1 - |
The objects to be used in
trials can be changed or
improved by the 4th
Commission - Sub commission
of Water Dogs from the
C.P.C., in case its approved
in practice as an
improvement to the
performance of dogs in
trials. |

2 - |
The punctuations to give in
levels and trials can be
changed by the 4th
Commission - Sub commission
of Water Dogs from the
C.P.C., in case its for
improvement of trials. |

3 - |
All changes to the present
Regulation must be
communicated to the Breed
Clubs if existent, and to
the Judges and Commissioners
so that they can apply it in
trials they are asked for. |

4 - |
This Regulations enters in
vigor 30 days after being
approved in General Assembly
of the C.P.C. and abolish
the previous Regulations. |
