IF Elfsborg Yepp, my favourite
football team is IF Elfsborg from Borås. I lived for a few years in
Borås. My football short football career started in Brämhult IK,
just outside Borås. My father got a season ticket for Elfsborg and
squeesed me in on the same ticket. At that time they played in
Allsvenskan. Lennart Nilsson, Tomas Ahlström is famous palyers I
have seen run in to the pitch for destroying the opponents defence.
They were killers! They could play the game. However, the rest of
team lacked the skill and after the season they were deregelated. It
was more than 10 years ago. I cant say I was too sad because they
played bad and without quality. They came back to allsvenskan but
with same result. They were stuck in division one. I would say this
was a good thing because they started to think in a new way. Offer
the young and talented local boys the opportunity to play. New
players were raised, such as Christer Matiasson, Anders Svensson,
Fredrik Berglund just to mention some of them and they are all from
the surrondings of Borås.
After a lot sweat and tears
Elfsborg was back in the society. The first game in Allsvenskan they
played against IFK Göteborg with 10000 spectators on the stands. It
must have been a wonderful to be a spectator to see the ”new”
Elfsborg play the game as it is suppose to be played. IFK Göteborg
didn’t stand a chance 3-0. After a good start, they finished off in
the lower parts of the table. The year 2000 is a year when the
"experts" called Elfsborg the team who played the most attractive
football. The start of the season was like a dark, dark nightmare,
five loses out of five with one goal and sometimes with a bit weak
defence. But the team had the spirit and managed to break the bad
habit to lose with one goal and with three games left they still had
the chance to win Allsvenskan. But a draw against Helsingborg and
lost against the champion Halmsad made not Elfsborg’s day. After a
struggle in Stockholm against AIK in the last game. They had the
second place after 50 minutes but with unluck they finished off at
fifth place.
Next year is Elfsborg’s year!!! Do you want to
bet against? I thought so. |
