Tomorrow’s society is often described as a society of knowledge. Modern Information Technology, therefore, will be of growing importance in such a society. But, the explosion in ‘Modern Information Technology’ must not be allowed to lead to the growth of an elite group, skilled in handling new technology, while the majority living in rural areas lag behind. This modern Information Technological environment provide new challenges with respect to how the new needs and demands among the rural people can be addressed. Particularly, access to information, knowledge and skills has become an important input in enabling the cope up with such changes – thus the need for ALFA Ministries to initiate ALFA INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION CENTRE. ALFA INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION CENTRE will be a vibrant and innovative networking support program designed to enable the rural communities in Mpigi district to use the computers and the Internet as a ‘tool’ needed for the facilitation of diverse cultural exchange and dialogue – a dynamic source of locally and globally generated information and discussion. It is, therefore, very important for the rural communities to take advantage of the use of the New Information and Communication Technologies. |
