Dark DungeonsNow, in the 1980 there was a great moral-fright in the US about roleplaying-games. Especially D&D, which was very popular at the time. There were concerns about the roleplaying-games being a bad influence on the young audience it was targeting, and a gateway to crime, drugs, Satan and various other sorts of bad behavior. Just like the scare about heavy metal in the years before, or video, or TV, or movies, or dancing, or any other thing that is new, throughout time. At the front of this "assault on Satan" was of course some Christian fundamentalists, and they shouted long and hard about the dangers of roleplaying, and that kids killed themselves and others after playing these games. This is of course not true, as no suicides or murders have ever connected to roleplaying-games. However, that doesn't stop the spreading of propaganda to stop the printing and enjoyment of roleplaying-games. This leaflet, called "Dark Dungeon" was printed by an American company I have linked into my linkpage, and it portrays the true horrors of a roleplaying-game, and the consequences of playing them. It was circulated widely, and is now no longer available. This is a shame, as it attained some notoriety, and even mentioned in the roleplaying-magazine Dragon sometime in the late 1980s, I think. It can no longer be purchased, but I have it on my page, commented by me in order for you to see how much baloney it is. |
