Michel Platini was a part of the
french nationalteam that qualified for the World Cup in 1978. Back
then he was young and he didn´t have any experience of earlier
World Cups. In the first game against Italy ( 1-2 ) he was on the
bench, but in the next game he got the chance to play and he even
scored a goal. Argentina won the game anyway and it didn´t help
that France won the last game against Hungary, the tournament was
over for Platini and his friends.
After the World Cup Platini grew really big in France and in the
World Cup -82, Platini was the big star. He lead the french team all
the way to a semi-final, but they lost and finished fourth.
After Platini´s success in the World Cup, Juventus bought him
from his french club St. Etienne. The move to Italy became a new big
success for Platini. He was topscorer in Serie A for three years in a
row and he lead Juve to victories in Serie A, Cup Winners´Cup
and the italian Super Cup.
Platini was a tecnical genius and he also had another great ability,
he made the other players in the team play better.
The biggest moment in Platini´s career was the European
Championships in France 1984. In the five games Platini made nine
goals and France won the tournament.
Platini also scored the game-winning goal in the tragical European
Cup final on the Heyzel Stadium against Liverpool. After the incident
Platini lost his passion to football and he retired in 1987.
Platini has also coached the nationalteam, but after the failure in
the European Championships in Sweden 1992, when the french team had
to go home after just the three games in the group, his career as a
coach was over.
Nowadays, Platini has just finished his work with the World Cup in
France but he says that he will continue working with football in
some way.
